Has anyone else gone and reviewed the rules on using a Java logo from Sun for your product? I went to java.sun.com, typed Logo in the search box, and up came a number of documents.
The gist of it seems to be that the “coffee cup” is off limits to anyone except Sun, and so is Duke. They’ve made other logos for “Java compatibility” but I’m very confused as to the rules… what is a commercial licensee and how does one obtain that?
And whatever happened to the “100% Pure Java” logo?

It depends upon what java area…
For example J2EE has it sown set of rules to get the J2EE compatiability logo for apps as well as servers…
I would imaigne that J2SE also has its own set of rulews for licensing/compaitibility logo label…
On the J2Me side you generally do not go through sun for the app compatibility licensing but depend upon the 3rd party publishing house that partners with sun to get this licensing for you as part of the j2me app certification process.
