Take a look at this post from today’s slashdot, it is interesting to read the comments and sad that there is still so much misconceptions

Shrug. Slashdot is always full of mindless drivel. I know it’s been a badge of geek cool for years (why?), but real programmers only read it to laugh at the morons…or because they like somewhere to take out their stress and anger (kind of like deathmatch quake).
(by the way, that was tongue in cheek, just in case someone doesn’t realise ;D)
…but I chuckled when I saw the first post that was above threashold - jbanes weighing in with 5 links. Good call ;D.
4k games [dnsalias.com]
Amazing OpenGL game [puppygames.net]

Anyway, the serious point about /. is that you’re never going to reform the seething mass of skiddies and over-assured beginners (unless, maybe, you wait until you achieve Carmack proportions, and then make a point of consistently bashing /. until the masses give in and start to take a more mature view to life - like having the faintest clue what they’re talking about before opening their mouths…) - so it’s not worth worrying about.
There’s always good stuff buried in the sea of stinking crud of each /. post in my experience, but mostly life’s too short to look for them there when you can find better commentary elsewhere without such gargantuan amounts of crud, IMHO.

I get so ill everytime I see an article on Slashdot related to Java, I don’t think I can read them anymore. They’re just so full of idiotic blathering… /me sighs

if u dont think java rocks these days your a chimp ;D
Java will be cool to “those”, when a big, cool game uses it.
Same as with any other alternative tech/tool…
What is up with this ‘cool’ trash?
What is ‘cool’?
It makes absolutely no sense to me why a programming language (would be/wouldn’t be) considered cool.
It’s so funny how they mention Java’s GC thrashes your hard drive. I’ve written some sizable apps, they never thrashed on my system.
Those stupid comments about crappy Java apps is absolute horse shit, Eclipse is THE best IDE I have ever used in my life.
I wasted $300 on Visual Studio .NET 2003 (for C#.NET development) and it doesn’t give me anywhere near the functionality that Eclipse does.
Where are the automatic creation of getters/setters/delegats?
Where are the advanced refactoring options?
For $300 I would expect at least that much. The only way to get the plugins which accomplish these tasks is by buying $600-$4000 plugins. Screw that.
The requirements of getting a decent programming job here in Australia require you to have experience in both J2EE and .NET.
People, don’t forget we are nerds, we don’t give a rat’s ass about what’s cool (and that’s the coolest you can ever be).
shmoove
Uggghhh. I am ashamed I caved in and clicked the link to /.
What useless blather that is on the site.
My thoughts are -

Tell that to an overzealous C terrorist err developer. :-X
