the recent stuff (2005-2006) is not open-source for now but it could change soon (stay tuned with the provided rss…)
take a look at the 2 examples at the bottom of this page:
- some gently antialiased Georgia Bold is used
- each character stands inside it’s own texture
- the biggest character ( W ) fits into 64x39 pixels
- the smallest one ( . ) fits into 12x11
what more can be said about the system?
- the idea behind can be traced back to the Visual Language Workshop at M.I.T (i.e. Muriel Cooper’s work on type in the 80’s…)
- mipmapping and anisotropy are very useful when working with 3d text (discovered that only in 2006…)
