Just how common has Java 5.0 become on the computers of average users? I’ve been trying to decide if I will target 5.0 or stick with 1.4.2 to minimize the need of updating for the majority of users.
I haven’t exactly been keeping up with how 5.0 has been accepted by the mass public, but I’m sure that you folks will have some helpful insight for me.

Well right now most of the developers don’t even like it, so almost no common users have it.
I wonder why…? Does it bring any disadvantages?

Ive upgraded to 5.0 for a single reason.
1.4.2_05/_06/_07 have broke JNI. And 1.4.2_04 is working fine, but that stupid thing called java updater keeps nagging me to update. So i just updated to 5.0…THAT SHUT YOU UP DIDN’T! ;D

Seriously, we ship our swing app with Java 5, but with a private JRE. I just didn’t want to take the risk of putting the JRE in the hands of users that would blame us for any incompatibilities.
