Java 3D Games Programming Chapters online

Dear All,

I’ve been working on a book tentatively called:
Java Programming Techniques
for 2D, 2.5D, 3D, and Network Games

I’ve just placed the 10 chapters on Java 3D (including source
code) online at:

http://fivedots.coe.psu.ac.th/~ad/jg/

Please download it, try it. I’d like comments.

Thanks,
Andrew

great chapters ;D
Could I have your 2D chapters ?

The 2D code is mostly written, but I want to go over
it another time yet.

i am afraid that book about java3d and gaming might be by the time it is published (Xmas 2003) passe … unless it includes jogl

Still, for someone like me who knows a fair amount of “regular” Java but has never really jumped into the 3D programming world, from what I’ve read so far it’s been a good starting point for me. Technologies come and go and some day even jogl will be replaced with something niftier and kewler. The Java3D API seems like a good starting point to me whether it becomes obsolete in 6 months or 5 years. Theoretically, learning additional APIs such as jogl should just be a logical extension of whatever I learn in this Java3D introduction.

Dear All,

Java Programming Techniques for 2D, 2.5D, 3D, and Network Games
http://fivedots.coe.psu.ac.th/~ad/jg/

I’ve just finished putting the networking chapters online,
which end with a 3D networked ‘world’ example using Java 3D.

Please visit, I’d like comments.

Thanks,
Andrew

thanks a lot ! I think you have helped so many javaGamers.

Let’s go!

sounds cool and well constructed… but i’m affraid i’m part of those lazy ones who are just flying through it.
I think the network for games topic is a big big +, it’s one of the topics where it’s especially hard to find good tutorials (related to games).
There is however a small but important thing missing: there is no table of contents nor an index. This makes it hard to find something precise or have a detailed idea of what’s in it.

cheers

and again: good job!

Umm…maybe im blind  but i cant seem to find anything on Java2d…

Nope, not blind. Andrew has only released some Java3D and Networking chapters so far. The final book looks set to contain some Java2D work, but as of yet none of that’s been given away.

Oh Okay. Just wonderin.

Awesome book. Is there any way to download all the chapters in one big file?

Hmm I get nothing at the URL

Andrews host seems to be down. It was quite slow last time a took a look also, but I assure you it’s normally there!

hi Andrew,

do u help me in making a collaborative system, infact i want to make “Collaborative browsing”?

thx in advance

great book thanks for all the info i’m currently working on a mmorpg i was doing well with the rpg part but the networking and 3d where of great help (im doing 2d my own way ill distribute it when its a little more flawless).

Great book! Thanks for sharing with us!

Great book!!! Thanks for posting it online too!

Btw, the URL for HPjtune has moved. Now it’s http://www.hp.com/products1/unix/java/java2/hpjtune/index.html

SO at risk of slightly hijacking the trhead. I’ve started my Java 3D Games section of my giant games FAQ.

Its still a work in progress but it already covers a bunch of questions people seem to coem up with after playing around with Java3D a bit.

Please let me know if anything is less then clear or brings up other questions.

great book, i will definetly be buying it!
