J2SE 5.0 source code is available

In case you haven’t seen this, JDK 5.0 source bundles are now
available, with the old SCSL and the new, relaxed Java Research
License:

http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp

Info about JRL:
http://www.java.net/jrl.csp

Source with JRL:
http://java.sun.com/j2se/jrl_download.html

Source with SCSL license:
http://wwws.sun.com/software/communitysource/j2se/java2/download.html

Why are there two different links to actually download the source? Is more/less code included in the JRL download vs. the SCSL download?

As far as I understand the situation, you sell your soul to different demon depending on what link you click. You need to be logged in - so they can (in theory) try to nail you for violation of license.

Unfortunately, it seems that JRL is same closed as SCSL as far as open source implementations are concerned. While I would really like to peek at Hotspot sources, price of not being able to send a patch to classpath forever is a bit too much for me(not that I’ve send any for last few years, but I hate being constrained).

IANAL, but it is my impression that you can send the patches, just not a copy+paste kind of patches from Sun sources:

“You may use any information in intangible form that you remember after accessing the Technology, except when such use violates Sun’s copyrights or patent rights.”
