IRC Chat

The new IRC chat is great and hopefully will become a really useful resource. However, the server seems to be really really unstable. Could we possibly move to somewhere a little more stable?

Kev

I second that!!!

;D ;D

We need to get on a decent network, I still propose freenode, since that is a developer network.
As for free applet client, look no further than:

And, um, some more people might even hang out there if it’s somewhere sensible like freenode (e.g. I have to be on freenode every day anyway for work reasons, so no hassle for me to join an extra channel)

An IRC chat would be great. There are already two channels on quakenet: #java and #java.de (German), both having more than 100 people at all times.

It is, when people participate… click that CHAT link at the top of the page

I’m at:
#java.de (quakenet) [nicks: oNyx, aho, ahou, ahoge, ateru… and whatever comes up to my mind.]
#lwjgl (freenode) [My freenode nick is aho. Yay for nick registration :)]
#javagaming (freenode) [Its pretty empty… right now 3 people… all talk is over in #lwjgl]

I second the need for more participation. I was rather dismayed to come to an empty channel.

like onyx said - come to javagaming or lwjgl on freenode - it’s where we all are :), usually about 15 people (depending on timezone)

Okay, I’m on irc.freenode.net now as well. I think the people who are interested in a javagaming channel are mainly the people who are already using IRC. But if people already have an IRC client installed, no one wants to run an applet separately! Maybe the Chat link provide the name of server and channel, so people won’t have to let the applet load just to get the basic info.

I have added a bot to the channel, and it is logging it. I am working with blah^3 on setting up somekind of log browing on Javagamesfactory
so head on over to:
irc://irc.freenode.net/javagaming

Up and running on JGF now, but only a first draft. Hoping to get something better sorted soon.
