Interesting thing just happened to me now

I was just reading a topic at GameDev about C++ vs C# vs Java vs VB.NET vs ASM vs etc…
Anyway a guy posted a link to PuppyGames and I opened it up in a tab however I kept reading the post.
I then heard a funny noise coming out of my speaker. So I jump over to the next tab and I notice a space invaders game on the front of PuppyGame’s page.
I immediately spent the next 15 minutes of my life playing it and then died. :frowning:
In that time I could have spent on my assignment which was supposed to be due in yesterday but I got myself an extension. :stuck_out_tongue:

I was looking over the other games at PuppyGames and I noticed the cool special effects in the games and how they are very easy to play but for some odd reason you could spend hours playing those games. They reminded me of the early 90’s when I had my 486.
It’s very strange but they are remarkably well balanced. It’s a pain when you loose several hundred dollars worth of upgrades. :frowning:

I am really interested in how Cas develops these games. How does someone improve on simple ideas without making them overly complex?
I remember my first space invaders game. It almost ended up as an MMORPG. ::slight_smile:
Scope creep happens to me when I don’t know what I’m supposed to be doing. :-\

Do you guys write down your ideas?
What do you do with them? How do you come up with ideas?
Is it a pen and paper thing?

EDIT:
Would anyone want to sell a game I make in the future if I split the profits with them 50/50?

Haha, sorry for wasting your time :-* I design my games specially for timewasting now.

I’m working on a new timewaster right now which is a bit like a Flash game called Storm the Base. Storm the Base is pathetically simple, but that’s the clever bit. We’re just going to give it a lick of paint and spice up the gameplay and put in a lot more little things but if anything upsets the balance, we take it out.

The secret I have to these games is what I call the Dad Test. If my dad (who has the attention span of a jaded gnat) and Charlotte’s dad (who has the hand-eye coordination of a bag of frogs) can play the game and find it fun and compelling enough to complete the demo then I’ve succeeded.

Cas

 hehe

I expected this sentance to end with ‘and then my head exploded.’

I love those threads. The incredible concentration of misinformation and prejudice makes me appreciate more productive forums like this one.

With the amount of spam around at the moment it’s a bit of a stretch to call this place productive. ::slight_smile:

Oh comeone… there are ahandful of spam posts but it isnt THAT bad and theya re easily recognoizable and avoidable.

Besides, compared to Slashdot the Northern Wisconsin Home for the Feeble and Disabled is highly productive.
