IntelliJ

Put your credit cards away…

IntelliJ is now free.

I have heard that IntelliJ can be quite nice in some areas. I see they have now have a “Community Edition” and a “Ultimate Edition”. I’ll have to give it a try…
Haha found that video quite funny.

Great news! Can anyone who has used both IntelliJ and Eclipse summarise the differences/advantages? I suspect if I just download and try it I’ll be irritated enough through unfamiliarity to not persist and discover them myself.

edit: oooh, it supports @Nullable and @NotNull - I’ve been wanting them for a while…

The big advantages of IntelliJ over the other IDEs are: its editor, navigation, refactorings, code inspections. Take time to learn the most common hotkeys, and explore its features, to be able to take full advantage of what it has to offer.

IntelliWho?

I would actually consider that a disadvantage. I hate it when random groups of people try to hack language features in by misusing annotations :frowning:

Ah, but they’re not language features, they’re merely annotations, conveniently ignored by any other compilers…

Personally… I didn’t like IntelliJ much, reminded me too much of old-skool style development, compared to the speed, uberview and godliness that Eclipse seems to bestow upon you.

Cas

it cant beat Jcreator, can it ? :stuck_out_tongue:

side note : one of my coworker just switch to JCreator (we was always bashing eachother about that) as he was boried by netbean slowness and bugs… and he first reaction was WoW it is sooo fast and clear…

Notepad FTW!

Fixed to reflect my experience. :stuck_out_tongue:

My point being: Try it if you haven’t, use it if you like it and works for you. The only objective observation I could make is that all IDEs have advantages/disadvantages and coding is a tiny fraction of our work anyway.
