Individual Looking for Indie Team

Hi,

My name is Matt and im looking to either join an indie team at the executive level(Mngmnt) or start a new indie team.(I still plan to code.)

I am currently a freshman in college. My intended major is a BS in Computer Science and a minor in business.

What I DO know: HTML/CSS/PHP/MySQL
What I am LEARNING: JavaScript/ASP/Java
What I know some, but still have alot to learn about: C++
My current book: Beginning C++ Game Programming by Michael Dawson.
What I would like to learn: How to model.

If there are any groups that need my current skills and willing to teach/let me learn by working on projects I would be very happy to help. I also have a lot of extra web hosting so I could help an indie group in that aspect as well.

Thanks for your time.

Modelling can be very difficult, but often rewarding.

If you choose the path of the live nude model, you must first master the ability to sit very still for long periods of time. I recommend a meditative technique. You also must learn to ignore minor discomforts, particularly cool temperatures. Also, when you find yourself naked in the center of a room full of female freshmen artists, it is best to try not to look at them, and if possible, think about sports.

Fashion modeling requires different skills. Your primary bread and butter will be through the art of striking dramatic poses. While it is good to practice in front of a mirror, there is no substitute for practicing in front of a camera. Have a friend or someone snap pictures of you while you strike poses.

Good luck in your modelling career!

;D I thought I was going to die, I was laughing so hard!!

But seriously, his post was honest, well thought out and not pompus! Someone should give him a break! I would if I had anything going on, but I am just begining to learn all this stuff myself!

But really… Im trying to get something going here.
But that was a good one.

When you are only just learning Java, know a little C++ and your question is
how to model, your chances are pretty much zero to be accepted in an Indie Team.

Your experience in “HTML/CSS/PHP/MySQL” will not really help you much unfortunately.

First get your skills up, which might take a year or two, then make your first game
and complete it. By then you’ll have the experience to contribute something in a team
effort.

If you would start an Indie Team by yourself, with your current skills, see it as a learning-
experience only. Don’t try MMORPGs  Tetris and Space Invaders are the ways to go.

Good luck!

Hogwash! Capitalise on it - join a dev team as a website maintainer. While most game developers can likely do their own website, I’m sure some of them would prefer to be able to concentrate on the game more and the website less.

Use your time with the dev team to get the hang of the garage game industry, and to brush up on your own programming skills. You should come out of it with an understanding of project lifecycles, marketing and distribution, and probably some end-user support as well. All valuable experience. If you learn enough in the meantime, you should be able to move sideways onto the dev team in time.

Sheesh, cynics. :stuck_out_tongue:

I think every one hs had the same idea it’s juat up to board people like us to jump on board. CCS/PHP whatever do have there uses where one might want to save geomod data on a simple tilemap game to sql or stats or what ever, maybee RSS feeds may be relevent for making a newspaper in a game more realistic. everthing helps just a matter of finding a use.

Um I personally Know
HTML,JS,Java,CCS,XML(enough),SQL,Perl
AutoScript,C,CPP, a little assembly, Basic of course and that just the programming.

  • play almost working GB type emulator on MS XLS of all things.
Currently interested only in java. but can also
Mix Audio, Sreate Seamless Loops, Effect(though been a while)
Paint Sop Pro, Corel(Hate IT it sucks arse),Vector Works(but not for a while) Seamless Tiles and such.

I have fiddle with 3D but dont care for it as im old school Amiga/Atari 2D only.
Willing to share ideas and help if you see fit

If you just want some experience coding some Java in a game, feel free to stop by our website at www.projectnexxus.com.

Matt, just learn. If you are passionate enough, in only month or two you can have something that will make you proud of. It really only depends on you
I started with great enthusiasm and while I was learning, suddenly I realized hey, I made SOMETHING. And that is great feeling.
