Ideas being a pain

Don’t you hate when you come up with an idea for a game and spend hours going over it in your head, put some stuff on paper and then realize that…“hey, that’s just a revamped Defender”, or “hey, that’s pitfall with guns”.

I am having that now. Galaxy Traders 6 is giving me a headache, so as a break, I thought I would put together a single palyer game of days gone by, with some extra zing…just dont want to copy.

Just venting! thanks!

Originality is important but overrated. If you think you can execute the idea well and come up with something fun to play, I’d say go for it! ;D

just dont want to copy

Well, you have to

An original game is 95% copy and 5% original. Otherwise it won’t work, because the players wouldn’t know what to do.

If you go for a specific genre you’ll usually end up having most things already engraved in stone. Of corse you can break some rules, but not all of em.

However, copying the feel of a game is pretty though (in most cases). It’s a good way to practise for your next game, wich looks and feels like you want to.
