I have an oppourtunity.... for you, and your Java Games.

Hi, my name is jack bladon and i have recently got into web design. My websites arent uber complex but they dont look crap.

I am starting a new project and i need you.

I am making a gaming site, that focuses entirely on the visitor, and getting you noticed. The site wont have thousands of games, but unlike all the giants, all of the games will be quality.

I am looking for flash, java, and shockwave game developers.

Each game developer will also have a page on the website, with a small profile, perhaps an external link, and a list of the games you have produced and added to this site.

i have allready posted this here: http://www.gamedev.net/community/forums/topic.asp?topic_id=559232

if you need any extra details they may be on there, i was recommended in that thread to post to post here…

who wants in?

here is an example of what the site’s homepage could look like; (and no, the title or logo is not final)(P.S. its just a template, there would be more colour and less white space);

P.S. if you dont want to join please could you add some feedback anyway,

sounds pretty cool,

1 question though:

how do you plan on making money?

Ad generated income, but again - i am trying to avoid maximum profits and focus on a good experience for the user. The ads will not interfere with the games oe take up vast amounts of space. I would like to start it ad free until there is a reasonable amount of content.

Each DEV would get a very fair cut of the profits from AD’s on the page’s for their games.

well, sounds cool.

just curious, how exactly do we put the games there?

you didnt put any links.

i have not uploaded the site to a domain yet. i was just seeing if people were interested.

If you would like to add your games to the site i will upload it and make it ‘live’.

To get the games added could you please email me the game, give a short description of it and what category it should be placed under. If you have an icon/logo for it that would be great too.

As an extra if you would like you can send me a profile about you, a bit of info about the games you make, how long you have been doing this ETC. if you send me some text like that i will make you a developer page on the site.

you interested?

my email is howgudami@gmail.com

Could you please post some links to your websites?

I’d also be far more interested if the site was already built and online (even if it’s only an early alpha) then if it’s just at the feedback stage. Essentially your site doesn’t exist.

You should also have a section on the front page for a set of random games. That way older games don’t get forgotten and newer users can find them.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Thing is i would like to get the site running, but it will be blank and empty without any games.

I understand it would be more attractive if it were running, but i need some games, before i can make the site.

I could publish the site, and put placeholders in place if that is what you would like?

I think that would definitely drum up more support. You could also ask jojoh about his Games4j.com site. There is a topic about it here.. Perhaps he could give you some pointers, or if your as good as you say then you could offer to redesign his site and work with him. I’d personally rather see one successful Java game portal then two minor ones.

But tbh actually building the site is the easy part. It’s making it popular that is difficult, getting people to visit and come back. What will you do to tackle this issue?

Also again, do you have any other examples of websites you’ve built online?

I think it would be best if you could at least make the skeleton of the site so people can get a better feel for it and better see that you are definitely committed to making and maintaining this site. In addition, you might want to come up with some rules for games to be submitted, genres, size of files, formats, content (e.g. no nudity, racism, etc…) that sort of thing before too long.

Do have any marketing plan at this point to bring interest to your site?

ah, see heres the problem with my web design skills. I would love to offer him help, and be a part of that project. But i confess that i am only good at designing the front end of sites, i could make his site look prettier but would be no good at implementing the features he has for logging, signing up ETC.

Then how do you intend to build these features for your own site?

Again, do you have any examples of websites you have made?

learning it basically, work it out. its already implemented into his site, so i would have to know straight away.

and my hosting is currently mucking about for here are some screenshots of one site i made for myself and another for a friend;

homepage of my old blog;

Latest blog entries (sorry cant scroll)

example of a post (in 2 images so can see whole page, cant scroll)

there was also an archive page i forgot to screen shot, i did the site for 6months until my iphone broke (its kinda important that its working to review the apps) so i was forced to quit. I was bringing in around 100 unique hits per day and quite a few RSS subscribers.

heres a site i made for a friend;

again i apologize that i dont have a site uploaded to view, so you can click around.

dont worry, when this game site goes ahead it will have 99.9 percent uptime.
