HOWTOs

Even in France, programmers don’t stop working !
31/08/2006 :

  • Updated! Keyframe animation OBJ + Morph Node
  • New! Keyframe animation MD2
  • New! Enabling Shadows

You can write ones yourself !

a link please !

Lilian

All the HOWTOs can be found on new xith’s site (not yet transferred at xith.org) : http://magicspark.org.free.fr/xith, in Docs>HOWTOs, and then you have a list of the existing ones (currently there are only 3).
If you want to write one, please register, and give me your account name so I can grant you the permissions to do so.

Those HOWTOs are great

@bluesky: I think a link from the Docs-page itself to the HOWTOs would be a good thing, too (there’s the getting started, the install man, … but no link to the HOWTOs

Many more to come… They’re not yet very clear, but at least “understable” (with some effort).

Oh that’s right.
Thanks for pointing that out.

Is it possible that a moderator make this thread sticky ? Thanks.

Okay, I found the most useful HOWTOs that are needed are :

  • The Model loading HOWTO (covers ASE, OBJ, MD2, COLLADA)
  • The Picking HOWTO (Arne’s new picking method)

I could do that picking HOWTO…but first I’ll have to know what you’ve put in the cvs…(see other thread)

Done.

Please do. I answered in the other post it was in org.xith3d.picking (toolkit).

Done.

Thank you.

I think model loading Howto’s would be great. Especially for newbies like myself! Unfortunately the link isn’t working: http://www.xith.org/docs/howtos/ comes up with an error?

It actually looks as though the link on the left takes me to the right page: http://xith.org/howtos.

Yeah in fact OBJ/MD2 animation HOWTOs tells you how to load OBJ and MD2 models. So it’s alright I think and COLLADA will have a tutorial when it’s released with Xith 0.8 (Croft, will you write the HOWTO or may I do it myself ?)

I should mention we are in the way of moving them to the GSG (Getting Started Guide) because it’s more friendly to read (HTML & pretty PDF format), it’s accessible via CVS, and it provides a way of learning Xith quickly.

I have sort of already written one. You might want to link to this page:

Ah ok.

I don’t know if these HOWTOs will be maintained, maybe I’ll include them in a documentation project I’m actually writing.

I’m sorry for the delay but as Qudus is doing great work I want to include it in my book.

Just a little poll : do you think it’s a good idea to release an Edition of the Guide I’m writing for each Xith3D release ? So it’s always up-to-date and includes latest features, and so on… But releases are a bit delayed (time to write the doc).

If the releases are displayed on the website next to their releasedate and the Xith version it is based on, I think is fine. So nobody needs to take more time than he has or wants to spend. And one can ever see, if the document is resent.

The more documentation - the better ;D

OK, although I think I can take time to keep the guide up-to-date for now (as for the future everything can happens so…)

Sure
