How to theoretically turn a sphere inside out - awesome video

I found these awesome, old videos about the subject, and wanted to share them with you guys. Maybe someone can explode the brains of the players of their game, by doing it real-time in-game ^^

Damn that was interesting! O___O

I never expected to watch the whole thing…thanks!

Exactly what I was thinking when I saw it!

Check out the “Banach Tarski Paradox” sometime for more perverse things you can do with spheres.

I read the entire thing, and I still don’t know how to tell other people about this ???

What. The. Hell?! My mind has stopped functioning properly now.

Isn’t that basically the same as infinity/2 = infinity? (a mathematical sphere has an infinite number of points)

The way you say that makes it sound dirty.

Anything that isn’t a point has an infinite number of points. The paradox allows this trick to happen with a finite number of shapes, but the shapes are themselves unmeasurable sets of points. The last panel of this xkcd shows what happens when you allow such “unmeasurable sets”:

Ha! I remember that XKCD! And I finally now understand it! What is the hover text?

“The Banach-Tarski theorem was actually first developed by King Solomon, but his gruesome attempts to apply it set back set theory for centuries.”

I’d say an easier way to think about topology is that things are made of an infinitely stretchable and compressible material that doesn’t tear. If you want a hole, you gotta cut it.
