how to find out my external IP

how can I find out my extenal IP. I have 2 pcs that are connected to a router which is connected to a cable modem. ipconfig will only show me the internal IP’s.

There are several online services that will do this for you.

try

http://whatismyip.com/

(in the future ask google first.)

If you want to discover this from code, you may find the CheckIP service from DynDNS much easier to parse:

http://checkip.dyndns.org/

… and both services deliver completely different results…

Not for me! ;D

How are you connected to the Internet? I’d guess your ISP is doing something funky.

I really don’t know … bigger company…

IPs are:

dyndns: 10.3.32.79
whatismyip: 194.55.222.158

Quite different, eh?

Interesting. 10.3.32.79 is a private IP address and is not supposed to work its way out onto the internet. The 10 address is likely your real IP (type ifconfig or ipconfig to confirm), and the 194 address is the IP of whatever computer is fetching stuff off the internet for you.
