How many of you hate me?

I can’t help but notice that no one is replying to my games (Drive Buster, and Phantasy Blade – both can be found on page 1 of showcase), and that my topic about Drive Buster becoming open sourced was deleted. I was just wondering how many of you haven’t checked out my games because “That asshole could never be smart enough to make a great game.”

Nobody here hates you. It is just your ego problem, Optimus…uhsorry CyanPrime

Well I DO have a huge ego, lol.

This isn’t the first time you have started a pointless thread showing your immaturity. Get a grip man!

I’m quite immature too, but I don’t think that should make anyone judge my games any differently. It’s not like I’ve been posting games like “fart man” all my games have been very high in the maturity factor, and since I’ve started using Slick they’ve been quite high in the quality factor too.

5 people responded to your Phantasy Blade thread which incidently is more responses that I got when I relased my Java MultiPlayer game WebSite (with 12-13 applet games albiet some low quality) which took over a good year to write. Shit happens!
Quality has nothing to do with it, most people generally cant be arsed commenting on games. WebStart games dont work on my laptop for some unknown reason so didn’t try any of your games. Its not personal, it’s just annoying seeing pointless threads like this in which is mostly a highly intelligent community.

yeah, dont take the lack of forum activity as personal dude.

I personally havnt tried many games lately as nothing as really stuck out as new. And have been busy. Amd im sure I wouldnt be the only one.

lol, trust me, you are not the one referred to as “the forum troll”

…wow.

You’re going to have a terrible life if you don’t learn not to take things personally. Especially things like this where a moment’s logical thought will cause you to realize that there is absolutely no correlation whatsoever between forum activity and people hating you.

Wow.

I saw the topic title, was a little worried because I don’t want schisms in JGO, then noticed the author and found myself not surprised. Maybe you feel as you do because you would have more attention if everyone hated you - as it stands, everyone just doesn’t really notice you. Or at least your games. Because putting it frankly the ones I’ve played have not excited me in any way. Which is fine - just keep making games and eventually you’ll be an all star and I will say to myself “Way cool, CyanPrime made another game! Can’t wait to check it out.”

But if you’re making games because you’re searching for praise, then you’re doing this for all the wrong reasons. The praise comes after years of obscurity and toil. I have never made anything on JGO that was particularly well received. There are only a few users on this site who I will actively follow to see when they release a new game. And I think everyone can guess who they are.

So cheer up! Keep going!

SLAP

Snap out of it!! It’s ok! It’s ooooooooookayyyyyy.

Seriously though, I just haven’t been on the forums enough lately to try stuff.

As a point of advice for the future, perhaps you should make a game for the public if that’s what you’re going for. By that I mean make something with mass appeal - remake a popular retro game, do a 2D iteration of Smash Bros, something like that. You can piggy-back on another game’s success until your own name is recognizable as a good game designer. The most important thing for a game to be well received is for it to have good marketing. That means that you need to, somehow, make everyone aware of your game and, more importantly, make everyone want to play it. “Xenplat” and “Drive Buster” don’t stand out to me in any way whatsoever. Neither does “Phantasy Blade,” for that matter, although for whatever reason I find it more fun to say in my head. Going back to my previous suggestion, you could rename Xenplat “Super Smash Aliens” and Drive Buster “F-Zero Cyan,” or something. And then you can also steal sprites until you get better at art. Remember you’re not trying to make money (assumedly) with these games, so you then need to analyze what your objective is; so far it seems that you want to be well-liked more than anything. If that’s the case, cater to your objective. If you just want to learn so that in the future you can make even better games, then you shouldn’t even bother with graphics, really, and instead have squares running around in some well-engineered MMO world or have 500,000 poly spheres moving around at 300 fps.

So what is your objective? Consider that, first and foremost. For me, I go for a little bit of both - I always try to learn something important in every game I make, and I also try to make it fun and enjoyable for the masses. But I’m still more interested in learning than anything else.
