Hello everyone, I would like to learn how you guys make animated GIFs? I’ve tried some free programs like LiceCap and others, but they either reduce the colors in the GIF produced or the size is quite big (21MB for a 12-second GIF???). Some give green or other colors on OpenGL windows.
So, please share what GIF recorder you use with me. Some details would be appreciated.

I use gifcam. This may not be the exact download, but it has that red icon and it’s great.
I apologize, that was a bad download. I’m not sure where I got it. There’s a softonic download for it, but you’d have to deselect any additional software.
I found the original blog: http://blog.bahraniapps.com/gifcam/. Avast gives an alert at this site too, but the downloaded EXE is not a virus: Confirmed by scanning with it, avast warns the domain.
Well anyway, the generated one (for 14.2 seconds) is 40.23MB in size and it also has green all over it. GifCam is not an option.
After you record, right click the film and deselect show green. I don’t know why they have that.

I use Photoshop CC to make my gifs (you need a minimum of at least CS Extended, but all CC editions also have it now).
It has a ton of quality settings/options, but still, the trick with gifs is more movement and more color = larger size. So if your gifs are huge, you’re probably having too much pixel movement, or too many colors.
EDIT: Case in point…
this huge one is only 2.2mb, because there arent many colors and a majority of the pixels dont change often:

this one on the other hand is shorter, but full of colors and tons of moving pixels… clocking in at 16mb!
Maybe you can use Apache Commons Imaging to do that.
If you want to make the GIFs smaller, use Gfycat, which turns them into HTML5 videos.

If you want to store the WebM videos locally, right click and choose Open Video in New Tab (in Chrome) or Save Video As (in Firefox).
Well first you take a knife, scoop it out and put it on the table. Then take some rocks or what have you and draw a smiley face in the peanut butter. There you are!

Originally it was 28688KiB and I managed to shrink it down to 14340Kb by use of SuperGIF and GIFsicle.
For the gif capture, well it was the output of a java program I created for a competition on CodeGolf.stackechange but I have used Cropper to screen capture to GIF
