High frame rates no tearing

Recently I tested the terrain demo on my GeForce4 and I was getting extreemly high frame rates. Everywhere from 200 to 800 FPS.

Now I know this isn’t possible when using the scan synch’d buffer flipping. The demo had no tearing at all the display was flawless. How was this acheived?

Every time I try to do this I can get the high FPS but the tearing of the screen display makes it usless.

Oops, guess this should have been in the 3D area.

There almost certainly was tearing but you’d have to have pretty sharp eyes to spot it at several hundred frames per second. In 3D in particular tearing isn’t nearly as noticeable as when doing 2D, because things move in and out of the screen in 3D rather than along.

Try spinning on the spot, and I bet you see some tearing.

Yep sure enough there is tearing I just needed to get to a place in the terrain where it would be obvious. Went next to a really sharp peak and then spun around watching the edges of the peak.
