Ok I dont understand something here. Where do I get the J2SE 1.4.1 for the Mac? I am registered in the Mac developer section. But all their downloads are 1.4.1 and 1.4.2 developer updates. I searched thruoght out the site and could not find the 1.4.1. I have Mac OS X 10.2.8. I have read somewhwere that Mac OS X comes with it but so far have found only the end user runtime. Can someone please help me obtain the sdk for my Mac.
Its on the registered developer site. if you havent alaready doen so then sign up for a “web membership”. . (Its free.)
It does indeed come with Panther.
Btw you may be misinterpreting what yo usee as, to my understanding (and I’ve been doing mac Java for a few iterations now) there is no such thing as a “JRE” in macland. Apple only destributes a full JDk.
Jeff is right, though the Mac JRE/JDK distribution is split in two parts. The JRE source code, documentation, and JNI headers are all part of a developer download that most end users won’t need.
javac is included in the typical user update. The automatic Software Update feature will get you the latest Mac JRE (Now caught up to Windows/Linux at 1.4.2_03).
You can also go to http://developer.apple.com/ to find links to installers and other java info.
OK, I have 10.2.8 so I guess I have to dl 1.4.1 for it to work. Now when I go to the developer download site the page I get is this:
http://www.angelfire.com/clone/wolfbane/screen.jpg
This the only page thats there. I downloaded the 1.4.1 developer update but when I go to install It says that I need a previous version. I am guessing that’s the December 2002 stuff that is mentioned. But then where is the Dec 2002 download?
Did you try looking under Developer Tools using the side links? It’s there somewhere.
CLick Java not macOSX
The latest develoer JDK aught to be there.
UNLESS, and thsi is possible, there there is no current public developer build, that the last build available is the last consumer release.
You also mentioned that you are under 10.2, thats an old OS so Im not sure of current support for it. Yo umay not be able to get 1.4.
Try the Update tool. Whatever it gives you is probabyl the latest available for your OS version.
What do you have currently? Even 10.2 shipped with JDK1.3 pre installed, AIR.

FYI:
"Java 1.4.2 Update
The Java 1.4.2 Update, now available from Software Update, "
But unless you upgrade to panther Im pretty sure you cannot use it
I guess Im stuck. I looked all over the site and am now thinking that they do not offer 1.4.1 anymore. My OS is X 10.2.8 but this is at my new internship and doesnt have the jdk installed, just the jre. In a week or so I was told that the office plans to update to Mac OS X 3 (dotn know which version exactly) So Ill have to wait till then.
Thats not possible.
You DO have a 1.3 JDK if its 10.2.x
There is no such thing as a Mac JRE under OSX.
Why do you think thats all you have??
You definitely should be able to get 1.4.1 for OS 10.2. It should be possible just doing a Software Update from System Preferences.
It is possible that your system is hosed and it doesn’t think you need the update though. In that case you should be able to download a disk image from apple.com
It’s right here: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/java141update1formacosx.html
OK I found it on my Mac. It’s 1.3. Thanx to Jeff for pointing out that it has to be there. I am new to Mac’s so it took me a while.
