Does anyone know how to get rid of this evil blood sucking monster called java 1.5 beta?
Just a few days ago I used to think that Cas’s comments of “hang them by the toenails” about the stupid stupid gits at sun who wrote the 1.5 webstart were extreme and uncalled for.
Cas - hey, man, I’m sorry. You were right all along. These people do deserve to suffer! Any poor sod who installs 1.5 beta is in danger of serious trouble with their code. It’s like a virus!
Not only is it FUBAR’d, not only does it’s webstart version seize control of the entire linux desktop, steal keypresses, steal focus, and make it almost impossible to shut down the evil thing, but it also pushes out the perfectly working correct java 1.4 JRE’s webstart, deletes all the cached jars, and steals them for itself. Never before in my life have I used any serious piece of sofware where the buggy-as-an-ant-farm beta actually secretly, deliberately, and silently knocked-out and emasculated the previous gold release. This is the kind of thing I didn’t think even MS had the balls to do these days :(.
I didn’t even use an RPM install, I used the “plain” installer and it still raped me.
I fear that simply deleting it will NOT restore any of the things it shouldn’t have touched but has broken, so … is my only choice to delete ALL JVM’s and re-install from scratch?
[Thanks, Sun! Really appreciate what you’re doing to my machine. All I can say is I am extremely relieved I had already banned any Sun betas from our work machines, or we could have had some serious trouble with this ****.]
on each occasion that the broken 1.5 webstart app decides to crash before even letting the 1.4.x VM get a look-in :(.
