Hello, people.

I realize I haven’t really introduced myself yet, even though I’ve been a member on the forum for the past two years.

I’ve had a huge chunk of inactivity on the forum (.03 posts a day. Don’t I deserve some appreciation just for that? It’s one high score, that is). I’ve never been too much of a community person, but as of late I’ve realized that communities can be quite fun! Being able to share what you are doing at the same time as seeing what others are doing is really nice. Being given the chance to learn from what other people are doing and, sort of… “Borrow”… Certain elements into your own work. Even though I haven’t been posting in too many threads yet, I’ve already had a great ton of fun!

Here are some questions for you people who have been on the forum for some time:

  • Do you (we) have something you call youselves? (Like JGO:ers, J-draGOn:ers, etc.)
  • Are there any certain guidelines I should follow when replying to threads (other than the rules)? Is it for example considered normal replying to somewhat old threads?
  • How often do you drink whiskey?

Other than that, I’m a very regular person, living a very regular life. I’m looking forward to getting more involved into whatever ways you folks spend your days

Edit: thought I might add… It’s one in the morning. I’ve got absolutely no idea why I thought it was a clever idea to post a thread at this very moment. Now I’ll be staying up all night hoping for someone to respond! :expressionless:

I happen to be up late trying to fix an intermittent ConcurrentModificationException… I am a teetotaller, so no whisky for me

Old threads get locked, so there is no possiblity to necro a really old thread. Not sure i agree with that - this is not really a social forum so topics don’t really become stale.

  1. We call ourselves “JGOers” usually
  2. Like ags said, old threads get locked. On un-locked older threads (unlikely, but could happen), be sure it’s on topic.
  3. Can’t drink, underage :clue:
  1. J-draGOns sounds amazing. I should change my middle name to that.
  2. Go off-topic and you the chitchat monster will get ya.
  3. If I have time to drink I have time to code instead.

This is mostly a forum people come to to ask questions or sometimes answer something.
However, feel invited to our IRC .

Welcome on JGO.

  1. I can’t drink alcohol, it gives me the impression that I’m burning from inside and I prefer staying far from it anyway.

Welcome to the forum. Er, welcome to posting in the forum?

I always thought of us as JGO-ers (jay gee oh ers). I wonder if anybody calls it “jay go” instead, which would make us “jay goers”?

Normal rules apply. So yeah, replying to old threads is usually obnoxious. Be forthright with crossposts. Don’t spam advertisements. The usual. This is a smaller community, so it’s less anonymous than some forums, which tends to make conversations more polite and less trollish. If you do start trolling, you’ll end up in the Chit Chat Monster.

I think a lot of people here are still kids (sorry, teens). But I’m the ripe old age of almost 30, so I can say that whiskey is gross, gin is good, and beer is better.

Thank you all for your replies!

ConcurrentModificationExceptions are fun…

Thanks! How active is the IRC? Are there certain days where you meet up and chat more than you usually do?

That’s wonderful!

IRC activity fluctuates a lot. I usually have it running in the background during work and some days it’s completely dead while others I leave for 5 minutes and I miss 50 messages. If you’re a chatty person then feel free to strike up a conversation, I think we all appreciate some chatting while we work on whatever we are doing
