GT7

Yes Galaxy Traders 6 has gotten an LWJGL face lift (GT6 was Java 2D).

Galaxy Traders 7 is not yet ready for webstartable play, but I do have some screenshots up at http://www22.brinkster.com/mbowles/gt6/default.asp.

As soon as I have something to play, Ill let you know.

Glad to see your up and running again.

thanks! The improved performance that I am seeing in this version has caused me to rethink the entire playstyle… to possibly include:

[] component based ships (you chose the weapons, engine, cargo holds based on a carcass) or you buy a ship to a specific config(“Peruvian Class Trademaster”) and buy on credit.
[
] tinkering with technology to “improve” your ship (a la Han Solo’s tweaks to the Falcon)
[] some ships may have passenger areas
[
] combat based on players “tactical” skill, tradeing based on “trade” skill (not that this is a performance dudadd)
[] tractor beams, debris in space(derilict ships, jettisoned cargo, escape pods, etc), cloaking
[
] many things on a ship will be based on tech levels as well as how much and what the carcass can hold.
[] some sectors of space will be patrolled by some sort of local or galactic police/military and thus are “safe/lawfull”, while others are anything goes with a slimmer chance of “interference from da’ man”.
[
] mayday system (range based on tech/power) for those who are disabled or threatened with overwhelming odds
[] politics between and within the races(If I do races)
[
] some predefined missions(tote ambassador kreig to planet J9)
[] havent decided whether this will run in short play spans with restarts or do a “realtime” this is life(once ambassador kreig has been taken to planet J9, that mission is gone forever and kreig is on planet J9, unless he needs to go somewhere else??)
[
] attempt to implement an economy both on the sector/planet level as well as galactic.
[*] if players earn a position of power, they can use it to “impose their mindset” to the galaxy. These position may never be larger than a planetary governor to start.

please note above I said “possible”

Only 2 of those ideas have not already been implemented in Rimscape

sounds like you have done a ton of work since I last played.

May I ask which 2?

The Tractor beams and derilict ships thing I haven’t done, although I do have floating debris and asteroids and jettisoned cargo.

Also while you can improve or worsen relationships with other governments which can help you in different aspects of the game, you can’t use power to impose a mindset. However aquiring planets and dominating systems is an idea for an expansion

Sounds great!! Good luck! I still have a long ways to go.
