grr... insect in my LCD

well this is probably the most annoying thing - a tiny black corn louse has crawled into my LCD screen and is roaming around between the backlight and the liquid crystals:

I just bought this LCD recently (and it wasn’t cheap!) and now because of the hot weather there’s an insect in it!

Anyone got any idea how I can get rid of the little swine? Right now I’m just hoping it crawls around to the back and dies…

LOL !
None of my ideas would spare your monitor, unfortunately.

Once fly flew into my PSU. It bounced few times against fan than was thrown out.

It’s not cooked up yet? Some LCDs are rather warm, so I’d expect it would turn into a charcoal quickly. Consult your LCD manufacturer, and ask for help. I’d expect a removal would void the waranty of the LCD.

wow, that must be a 1 in a million.
Unless ofcourse you had submerged your LCD in a pit of insects ;D

well it’s definitely dead - probably ‘cooked’ as Raghar said - on a lovely viewable area of the screen.
Think I’ll be calling LG for help on this one - hey, shame I can’t call it a ‘cluster of dead pixels’…!

I had a similar little critter in my monitor for a day or so. It was equal parts annoying and disgusting. At one point, it just didn’t come back; I don’t know if it crawled out or simply kicked off and slid to the bottom.

Before it mysteriously disappeared, I called the manufacturer, as my screen was rather new at the time. The support folks I talked to had never heard of this happening, and it took them a moment to understand that “bug in my monitor” did not mean “mistake in my monitor”. Eventually they gave me an RMA, but I never needed it.

Good luck!

Wow.

I’m assuming it doesn’t move at all if you (gently) wiggle/tap on the monitor?

Try getting one of those cans of compressed air that they sell for cleaning out keyboards and give it a little blast where you think he crawled in.

Some people suggest the following solution, which I haven’t tried because I never had that problem.

Put some gross and smelly food not too far from the screen to lure the bug out.

I’d say it’s worth a try even though I have a hard time understanding how anything would be able to smell food from behind an LCD…

I guess we need more than that, because the insect is already dead. Maybe get one of these devices that resurrect dead people like the Goa’uld (stargate) use. Put the monitor including insect in there. Then use the food trick…

Oh, right, it’s dead already. Hmm…

Seeing as I’m always full of good ideas, how about getting some other insects in there to eat it? Or ants could probably carry it out.

:o Never seen that one before. I think I would try the compressed air solution as well. Or put a vacuum cleaner on one of the ventilation holes…

I’d go back to the store/supply before I would do anything.

put a spider into the monitor and it will eat the fly… simple…

This is definately the best suggestion.

except the spider will be chargrilled after eating the insect and you now have a bigger insect blocking your pixels…:stuck_out_tongue:

I was hoping someone would play along…

The solution to this is also obvious - introduce a rat into the screen to eat the spider! Problem solved!

Be sure to have a range of mutually-carnivorous animals on hand for the successive steps of this fly-removal technique, up to and including horse-sized.

Or you can use a sparrow to eat the spider. And then you ask Dr. Seward for a kitten, a nice little, sleek, playful kitten. It’s brilliant!

(the reference is Bram Stoker’s Dracula, in case you haven’t read it)

omg, I’ve got one too!

It looks exactly like the one in the screenshot >:(

hmm its gone now - to where I have no idea; but its given me a fantastic idea for abit of low level trickery
Synthetic TFT creepy crawlies.

If virus writers were that constructive in what they disseminated I might hold them in a higher regard.

sullution : turn the screen off intrudec the spider and it will not fry then do food trick ;D
