Growth Spurt

Growth Spurt is my entry into the latest Ludum Dare 48 hour game programming contest.

You can find more info on the competition entry page or just play via webstart. It uses the LWJGL and SPGL libraries, and should work on Windows, Linux and Mac.

Controls:

  • Left / Right to move
  • Space to jump
  • Space in the air to double jump

In each level you have to jump to the tops of the growing plants to collect the needed amount of flowers before the time runs out. Theres 4 tutorial levels and 8 proper levels, if you manage to complete all of them (the last one “The Final Test” is somewhat tricky) then you start at the beginning of the proper levels again but with less time.

Well, there is some usable descripton at that link.

I think its pretty neat. The graphics are also slick and that growing effect gives it some organic touch.

I made it to that the last whatsoever level (no idea if its really the last one) on my first go. Cant really tell if it was doable… I needed to do some double jump which was (afaict) impossible. Well, its certainly one of the better LD48 games I played so far. You did a really good job there

Wow that’s amazing. A 48 hour game too? Great growing effect, smooth scrolling screen, perfect collision detection on the leaves, and smooth rotating guide arrows for each flower. My only complaint is it seems too easy. Can’t really die can you?

But I really like how it looks. Are those graphics just Java2D then? Runs and looks so smooth it almost seems like OpenGL (is it?).

It uses lwjgl.

wow, thats a pretty fun game - especially for 48 hours!!
died at a pretty hard level where the last 2 flowers were available at the top with 3 secs left

very cool, good job  Its actually a bit much for my geforce2 mx to handle though.

very nice and original

WoW - all those graphics as well as the code in 48 hours. Well done

Great game! I made it to “Final Trial” but only got 11 of 12 :frowning: Nice work!

Wow! Really cool and unique gameplay for a platformer! Very nice job for just 48 hours! And you did the graphics yourself?

Great game! Amazing for 48 hours.
