Got a whiteboard?

This poll is presented by #lwjgl’s random chatter.

Edit: I bought a 90x60 one with an aluminum frame, but it didn’t arrive yet.

Lol, I actually prefer using pin boards, because i tend to look around for the closest peace of scrap paper when jotting down ideas.

Whiteboards are great if you’re working in a team, but if you’re alone working (like at home) it’s not so useful.

I just use A4 paper, cut it in half, and I got decent mini-paper-whiteboard on my desk.

offcourse, one at home. at work I don’t count them.

I think mine is 120 x 90 :stuck_out_tongue:

I almost went with a 120x90 one, but that would have been a tad too big for this corner of my room… and I really like it here.

ive always wanted to have the classroom sized whiteboard, so i put one day

I am just curious, what do you guys do wiht it.

plan code?

I’d love a big whiteboard, but I don’t really have the spare wall space. :frowning: I go through loads of paper sketching out quick ideas or debugging info (usually class diagrams or collision vectors).

for my white board whenever i get one, i would walk by doodle on it, plan code on where and what classes would do, draw the GUI, write dates and phone numbers etc…

When I was in college my sister bought a house where the walls of an entire room was entirely whiteboard. The previous owners had covered the walls with raw whiteboard material, from floor to ceiling. You could just go up to the wall and jot notes, drawings, equations, etc.

I was horrified when she tore the whiteboard material down. But, she cut me a 5’x3’ piece which I still use today.

I am just curious, what do you guys do wiht it.

a) 2-tiered scribbling. A sheet of paper for the things at hand, the whiteboard for random ideas. I can write it down without cluttering up my already cluttered up sheet of paper. I can forget about it and take a fresh look when there is nothing else to do.

b) Temporarily important things like deadlines or phone numbers.

c) Screen flow diagrams. The drawing area cannot be too big for this stuff. It always seems like you start in the wrong corner of the sheet and you run out of space quickly.

d) Idea bouncing. It’s a lot more fun and more dynamic with a whiteboard. (Drawing and seeing happens at the same time.)

It’s like a 3rd level cache (brain->paper->whiteboard), it reminds you of things, and it’s also a big playing field. What’s not to love about that?

I only have one at work, but often it ends up as a todo-list for that day…

omgsh that would be so cool. One could do so many things with a room full of whiteboards.

Doesn’t sound like a good project management. You should adapt SCRUM.

none at home, two at work plenty of draws that are two years old

I usually use it for side projects (so not the main one) or for the main project for one really big graph (the kind you can’t stick in documents or scribble on paper) that is updated occationally. I suppose one day I’ll add a projector and use whiteboard only for fast - update-able scribbling.

out of topic but did you ever try those kind of whiteboard that you can drag window or draw into with hands ? I tried such board and it is really excellent .

I try to found a video of such board and post it back

EDIT:

here is one : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xu-wQ8a6agA&fmt=18

My whiteboard arrived today. It’s pretty nice.

their called smart boards. I had them at my old school. They are pretty cool

had this setup and kinda working - but the led in my self fabricated pen wasn’t a good choice needed a stronger one. Also laptop screen is too small - again need a projector.
