Got a gamedev job!

Hi All,

Thought I’d pass on some really good news - I have been employed as a game developer at a small Melbourne based game studio working on an upcoming PSP title. I’ve been there two weeks and am really enjoying it. Essentially this is what I have always wanted.

The work’s all C++, not Java. I miss a lot of things about Java, but am perfectly happy using C++ – as I hoped, my skills are easily adaptable to unfamilure IDE’s, languages and engines.

This won’t have a huge impact on my contributions to Xith3D, though my time may be a little more scarce. I still plan on doing more work on my Xith3D based game, but this may suffer a bit.

What clinced the deal at the interview were the demo’s that I had shown them of my work. One was a GameBoy Colour hobby game that I created in a week in 2001, and the other the Xith3D/Odejava based Lineriders project (video coming soon).

Cheers, and good luck to anyone else heading down this path.

Will.

PS. Thank you to all the Xith3D forum regulars (in particular: arne, croft, MagicSpark, Goliat, Orangy Tang) for your contributions, conversations and helpfulness over the recent months.

I hope it doesn’t suffer to much  ,but there’s still us 8)

Arne

Yes, congratulations! Being employed is a ‘good thing’ ;D

I’d like to see this gameboy color game, do you have the rom around somewhere? I’ve played the gbc a bit myself recently.

edit; n/m I found it on your page; thanks for providing the source, it’s interesting reading

Big congrats Will, that is excellent news!!

Cheers,

Eric

Good luck !

I’ll try to be as often as possible on this forum.

Terrific!

Don’t let them work you to death!

Congratulations!!!

Good luck, and I hope it doesn’t get too hectic around crunch time!

Congrats ,but keep some time for this forum also…
Good luck

Congrats! Enjoy it to the max

Thanks everyone! ;D

I’ll keep you posted on how it goes (unfortunately we have to keep our mouths shut until release time, after which I look forward to giving some details). We’ve just finished our first milestone (tech demo) and are now working towards the next milestone due in two months.

About the GBC game, nonnus29 you’re welcome. I used a tile creator to actually create the tiles (the data of which is then converted into data arrays).

Havn’t had a chance to publish the Lineriders video but I will try to soon, it’s a good example of Xith3D being used in an exhibited project.

Cheers,

Will.

Congrats on your job.
When you mention Melbourne are you talking about Australia -> Victoria -> Melbourne?

Thanks. Yep, that’s the one. Have you been here?

Will.

Congratulation William!

Xith may suffer a bit, this is understood… but from another hand - may be you will bring some of your new experience back to Xith!
Even better!

Good luck and success to you!!!

Bohdan!

I hope so… Xith (core) isn’t very active these weeks… :-\

For sure. I have not abandoned my Xith3D/Odejava game, although its focus and scope may change a bit. I have put many many hours into Xith3D and am not going to just drop it.

In fact, there is a possability that Lineriders (which I am still to properly explain) may be getting some more development and exposure over the next few months. I should include a plug to Xith3D.

As for the activity level, anyone can submit patches… I essentially have been improving Xith3D as I need it, I encourage others to do the same (and to go the extra step in standardising your improvements).

Will.

Maybe we should make a plan of possible ameliorations.
Err… and maybe the actual Xith architecture isn’t adapted for the recent graphic cards features… or optimization algorithms… I don’t know, I don’t have really the time to look at it now.
