Hi. I am coming close to having some semi-“playable” demo ready, but I don’t know the best way of making it available. I don’t have a personal website, so I am looking for tips on good (free) hosting options on the web. Doesn’t have to be fancy or offer in the gigabytes, just something quick and easy
Naturally I see a multiverse of alternatives through google; I’m just looking for some recommendation based on experience. I’m trying out File Savr as I write.
I want one that uses a direct hotlink that would be cool
Check out Dropbox - it’s pretty simple and has nice OS integration, and is free for up to 2GB of space.
Also, as shown on the screenshot on this page, you can hotlink directly to files (the links usually look like http://dl.getdropbox.com/u//file.ext). In this way, Dropbox is a static web host, for example… you can create an HTML page which references images/links that are also in the public dropbox folder.
What I don’t know is if it handles the JNLP correctly or not…
Thanks for the tips guys, much appreciated
It would be really nice to have jnlp support, but I’m not going to buy a domain quite yet before I really know what I want to do with it. (Seems freehostia requires you buy your own domain?)
Dropbox just looks awesome. Of course I am a bit conscious about letting such an application THAT close to my personal files, but… We’ll see.
At least I got some things to think about now
Now for a commercial… Please go try a demo of my game in progress here: http://www.java-gaming.org/index.php/topic,19162.msg155981.html#msg155981
I botched up and made this versionb Java 6 dependant, but I hope some people can try it to tell me if it works or not
