Getting Started

hi

im new to javaME programming

anyone have n e tips

like whickk sdks to dwnld

thanx fora l your help

Hi,

I’d start with Sun’s J2ME Wireless Toolkit, which you can get from here:
http://java.sun.com/products/j2mewtoolkit/index.html

Then, if you’re planning to try out MIDlets on an actual phone, download the manufacturer’s emulator for that phone. E.g. Nokia’s emulators can be downloaded from here:
http://www.forum.nokia.com/java
Typically these emulators can be plugged into Sun’s J2ME Wireless Toolkit like ‘skins’, and also work with IDEs like JBuilder.

If you don’t already have a book on J2ME, I can recommend the Riggs/Taivalsaari/Vandenbrink one, Jonathan Knudsen’s, or the Ortiz/Giguère one. I’ve also heard good things about John Muchow’s “Core J2ME”, but haven’t seen it myself.

If you’d like a cheaper option, there are lots of good tutorials on Sun’s wireless site:
http://wireless.java.sun.com
and on manufacturers’ sites like Forum Nokia above.

A few tips:

www.codewarrioru.com has free online traininig on J2ME development

Besides Sun’s website, you should look at the key phone developer programs

www.motocoder.com
forum.nokia.com
www.sonyericsson.com/developer

Also, if you join motocoder, you can get a full license CodeWarrior Wireless Studio for Free - which supports J2ME and Personal Java development
