GDC 2015 - various stuff

Unreal’s licencing has changed and PhysX source code going into UE source tree.

Unity’s licencing has changed as well.

Valve is following with licencing change (no details yet) for the Source 2 engine

GCC might get SPIR support.

Unreal kite demo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwuFd5uK_xQ

That kite demo is just wrongg. A kite free of its line would fall to the ground.

A blog post that’s tracking publicly available papers: http://blogs.wefrag.com/skaven/2015/03/03/gdc-2015-papers/

Kite demo is almost Pixar level stuff. I needed to double check that it is actually real time.

nvidia is dumping yet more stuff into UE: https://developer.nvidia.com/content/nvidia-gameworks-increases-pace-innovation-unreal-engine-4-games

I would love to have a computer that could actually run that kite demo smoothly. Damn, that looks really nice!

That’s why it’s the ‘unreal’ engine

Downloading unreal and that museum looking demo scene, I’ll see how well it runs on my 780 ti. Can’t wait, it looks absolutely stunning. I mean goddamn.
It’s crazy to think that this is years and years of development, but in the grand scheme of things, it’s just people trying to simulate a world they already live in more realistically.

crazy  … to see how it went from unreal-1-jaw-dropping-pure-software-renderer to this stuffs.

Speaking of which. Brute force: https://www.shadertoy.com/view/ls2SDD
