GDC 2005

Who’s going, what are you going to get up to, etc?

I’m going for two after-show events (the GPG party and the MUD-DEV dinner - skipping the awards ceremonies cos they’re normally so dull).

If you’d like to listen to me being cryptic about ARG’s then drop me a line

Anyone got a stall?

Dunno… might go, might not… 'tis a long ride to London.

Um, you’re either thinking of GDC-E or ECTS; this one’s in San Francisco ;D.

Whoops.

I’m in the area and have friends that live downtown SF, so I will be swinging by for some of the outside conference events… Mostly IASIG stuff; interactive audio… I was tempted to get the audio pass, but bought some new computers +new ATI/Nvidia cards instead of splurging on what probably would be a bunch of console oriented bogus audio presentations more trying to woo composers into the toolsets available for “next gen” consoles rather than covering interesting stuff like real time synthesis and spatialized audio.

I was going to bust ass and try and get Auriga3D and more of my audio tech ready for GDC, but then Chris never got back to me on the GTG booth… I was down to bring out a quality 6 channel EAW sound system ($$$) to rock it, but silence it will be, or small weeny speakers… Hope there is going to be some sound with the display!

If you are still here on Saturday the 12th I’ll be using my spatial audio tech for a decent sized electronic music event in SF featuring an 8 channel sound system; near downtown location.

Little more info on the setup:

Hit me up if you want to get some beers; the 8th is my b-day, so I’ll be SF…

Next year there is going to be GDC madness from my camp…

LOL mine too. But I’ve never been to SF in my life (will probably get lost), and at this rate looks like I’ll be bankrupted by the air fares (which appear to be more than the conference ticket, unless I want to spend 15 hours at Dallas airport waiting for a connection :frowning: ).

You guys should make a point to go out to Alcatraz, its very interesting; not a happy place, but interesting.

When is this going on? me and a friend were actually talking about going on a roadtrip to san francisco, so that could work out well. We wouldn’t be going until may (or spring break) because of school though…

Beginning of March…

B^3 get in contact off the board on any plans… I know the SF area well, so good beer and perhaps some interesting stuff… Not sure about alcatraz though… You can probably save some cash and not rent a car… I’m all about public transport and SF is decent including transport from the airport to downtown.

Michael…we e-mailed back in Sept and I asked you to let me know how it was going and what you could show at GDC. In December I e-mailed you again and told you I had space in the booth for you and you said you were working on getting Auriga3D done, but I never heard anything else from you. 4000+ e-mails hitting my in-box since then and I am afraid this fell off the radar, but I never heard back from you. Sorry. :-/

P.S. I will be there  And Adam, yes, we still need to find time to meet

Chris,

you’re probably very busy but I want to let you know that I’ve sent you 2 emails concerning GDC. Did you see them? I’m waiting for your answer in my last email.

Thanks

Jerome

EDIT: It’s about my game (Mighty Bubbles) you’d like to demo at GDC.

Bummer… I emailed back in Dec/Jan attempting to discuss more concrete plans, but didn’t hear back… It probably just got lost. Typhon is taking longer to come together, so Auriga3D is getting slightly delayed, but it will be rocking soon enough. Maybe not GDC, but late March/April and definitely for J1.

We will see if they accept my proposal though as I went big with a full technical session… hmm… will be rocking if so… beeeg multichannel sound system if I can get them to give me a room with minimal sound bleed! err… hmm…

I’ll be around SF for GDC though not in direct attendance at the conference though.

Uh… So Chris… What kind of setup will we have for GDC? Mmm… Something fast with NV6xxx series graphics cards, err except the 6200… hmm? Dual 6800s and you’ll be a champ…

I guessed I was a little bummed because I wanted to do the public preview release of Auriga3D/Typhon at a convention… Not gonna happen yet… I could probably get a neat demo together with features requiring the above setup though.

Sound? Maybe basic stereo out to a headphone splitter box with 5/6 headphones a station or err… maybe this just on the loaded dual 6800 box, right? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Long way to go from Australia :frowning:

Perhaps I should start saving for 2006. Maybe my game will be ready by then too?

Will.

For those of you in town for GDC I have arranged a little b-day bash for me on Tuesday night ( 3/8 )!!! ;D I understand it is B^3’s b-day as well, so maybe he will make it by too and we can all get sloppy drunk… This event is taking place downtown within easy walking distance of Moscone Center and is at the Lit Lounge 101 6th St. at Mission.

This is the site of a weekly techno (as in one of the cooler more underground electronic dance music genres) event. I’ll be DJing for a bit and tipping back a few and you should too…

The event is free / no cover, so come and chill…

Ooo… This just added, some local tech head DJs just got added… Forest Green (you saw her DJ in the movie Groove) …

Lineup:
Shazbot (moksha tribe/tech-on)
Nadon (EGR Records / egr.egregious.net)
Catharsis (EGR Records / egr.egregious.net)
Clairity (teknotika sf/theta records/tech-on)
Forest Green (sister sf/cloud factory/tech-on)
