Hi, next month is the GC (Games Convention) in Leipzig /Germany. Does anyone know if there were some JAVA based games this year? Cause there is every year a small area for indepentant teams and their projects. Thought of there might be some with Java too
Really no one?
Have looked at previous Leipzig’s and been left thinking: Mneh. If I lived in the same city, sure, but … Not worth travelling to.
So … is it worth going to? I mean, there’s an awful lot of games conferences springin up nowadays, and many of them aren’t really worth it unless you just want to play some free games.
If it is worth i can’t say. This year lineup might be dominated by consoles like at E3. But I wasn’t there for about two years. Wanna test all the cool new games like UT2007 and so on. Maybe they show something from Crysis.
And of the undependent developers I hoped there would be some java devs. Cause one year was also a group that made a free game with pascal.
Anyway it will be fun and if you live in germany and have the time to visit the GC, give it a try. There is only E3 and GC left. All other are smaller or exlusive events.
Did the ECTS happen this year? I don’t think so.
LOL. You and I look for opposite things - E3 is one of the few events I deliberately do NOT go to - waste of my time, just a load of flashing lights and floor shows, and 30second “interviews” with journalists asking inane questions :).
The events I like are still going strong - GDC, AGC, Develop. GDC’s actually moving city this year because it’s become so big that California’s 3rd biggest city doesnt have a convention centre big enough :(.
ECTS was an autumn event, so it wouldn’t have happened yet :). GME went ahead as an ECTS replacement last year but very small. The GDC half is going ahead as normal in September, as the newly rebranded “GDC London”, but the expo part seems to mostly be replaced by Develop (next week in brighton).
@OP:
dunno how it is (heard the public days are very flashy and steamlined for the kids)
but I would only go if there was a list limited game-dev day for people in the development buisiness.
ATM (& IIRC) they have the buisiness day and the press day.
Leipzig is supposed to be quite nice. It is a university city so lots of bars and whatnot.
If I knew if and when people are going I might go as well.
Afterwards we can hit the city.
I never visited the E3 yet. Cause I have not the pocket money to buy a ticket fly over the great sea and get into the dome.
@public days: Yea, there were many many kids. So if you like to have a comparable normal day you have to come the first convention day. It is for the press and all other ppl who don’t like those kiddies
@GDC: As iam not working at a firm that have to do something with gamedev it would be hard for me to visit the GDC. The days before the GC there is the GDC Germany/Europe. So at least there is something for the pro`s
