Yep JOGRE (http://jogre.sourceforge.net/) has chess and a lot more games. Open Source and pretty good!

it is 3D but oh well.
As you know, JOGRE deals with some simple 2D games, it works fine and it allows online gaming. The games on the FGF players’ portal work differently, each game that provides an online gaming system makes it by its own whereas JOGRE allows to use a single server with a single software for several games.
