Game Jolt - Ad Revenue Sharing

Very nice site! Crisp and clean.

I just went to try the top-rated game ‘glest’, but it’s 53mb and will take ages to download and install i presume.

Maybe you should have a file size column next to the game, or split games up into 2 different types - those less than say 5mb which you can play instantly and those that are bigger.

Nice job.

Keith

by beta I mean, just have a section called “beta game (not finished)”.

and once a game is done just change it to the normal games sectnio.

I agree with that, one of the things that somewhat bothered me is the lack of information about the games.

// Json

The easiest way to visually represent filesize is a log10 scale.

int px = Math.round((Math.log10(bytes) - 4) / 5.0 * fullWidth);

10KB = 0% 100KB = 20% 1MB = 40% 10MB = 60% 100MB = 80% 1GB = 100%

(javagamesfactory.org had that)

Thanks to everyone has signed up and submitted a game so far!

In the main game listings, it now shows the filesize as well as which operating systems the game runs on.

Example: http://gamejolt.com/games/new/

I decided to not represent the filesizes visually, mainly because I think it’d be too abstract for most visitors.

I’ll definitely keep this in mind (as I think it’s a good idea) for when we redesign the header a bit. Shouldn’t be too far off.

I think a Beta state would be nice.

Also display the filesize… I mean every download page does this, shouldn’t be too abstract.

And I dont favor the idea of < and > 5mb games. Its just stupid, I can read from the discription if its a minigame, and there might even be a minigame which is 7mb and stuff

I’m not sure what you mean, if you see the link I gave you, it shows the filesize there for each game that has a file. It also shows it on the Game Overview page on the download button, and in the Game Files listing.
And, yeah, I decided against the small game thing.

You might want to have a min amount of votes to be on the top 5.

???

That comment was for CROS. As you can see on the front page the top 5 is abused by people voting once and getting on the top.

Very good idea, Zammbi, and something we have on our list of things to do. The only reason we haven’t done it yet is because there’s not many ratings/votes yet. Once more games are being rated and what not, we’ll make a requirement for the Top Rated lists.

Thanks for the feedback, and keep it coming.

Hey guys,

We just released some information on ad revenue sharing. Let us know what you think!

Hi CROS,

I would like to know if you’re doing advertising for game jolt? The reason is that Incredibuilder and I’m sure a lot of other games are simply not played. The play count very rarely increase. I would be surprise it’s due to the games themselves. Or do you have other planned strategies to increase visibility of game jolt?

Thanks

Consider using a Bayesian rating system for your rankings.

You have a nice site there, so hope you have success with it.

You do realize that PayPal charges $0.33 per transaction?

hmm ppl posting here made me check our your site again, I have to say it is looking really nice. You currently have 35 ppl on :).

We don’t do any paid advertising currently. We have some ideas that we will be implementing soon, though, that will be geared towards bringing more gamers in. A Game API (for high scores, trophies and save state) is one of them. It’s been in development for a while, but should be ready to release fairly soon. Also, we’ll be redesigning the front page of the site with some new features that should help to get some more games noticed.

I’m going to definitely test out using a bayesian rating system. One of the current problems of the site isn’t that new games pop up in the top rated, but that the top rated doesn’t change at all and it’s hard to get rated higher than the tops. Adventure games seem to be dominating the current highest rated. We have some ideas to combat this, though, to show a wider variety of good games.

Sending money from one PayPal account to another is free. Been sending money with no problems so far. Where did you see the $0.33 per transaction?

Thanks! It’s definitely growing and pretty exciting.

Last time I checked (a few years ago) even those transactions were charged, with a fixed price (like $0.33), plus 3.4%
