Game Development Literature

Hi,

I noticed that the question about tutorials, books and intruductions concerning “game development in Java” occurs very often. They come in slightly different variations, but the core is always the same.

Wouldn’t it be nice to have some place to collect and classify all availabe tutorials, books, etc. about Java Game Development once and for all? Certainly not as an extra forum, but maybe as a subforum under “Newless Clubies”.

I’ve been kicking around an idea to do a page on this under the Resources section on JGF. My thinking was basically to have a list of books people can add items to, along with the ability for anyone to add their own comments on each book. Is that enough? That would be simple to do, if people would use it.

That would be even better than what I was hoping for!

Would this service include tutorials/eBooks or only printed books? I think it would make sense to have both. Most people who want to get their feet wet with game development in Java as their hobby won’t invest in books right from the start. And i’m quite sure that these people are the majority of our community. Besides, it would be good opportunity for authors to publish their tutorials.

But I don’t want to miss books either of course. I simply couldn’t contribute anything. I’m a Receding Brow Worm, not a bookworm :frowning:

Once the platform would be installed I would help to gather some resources. Maybe we could start with something very small that would not hurt to throw away if it turns out that nobody uses it.

Maybe I would also be interesting to include non-English stuff in the future (hypothetical speaking). I know that there are quite a lot of German tutorials on the web. What do you think?
