hi I want to make a java 2d game, but ned some bitmaps :-[ :-X :
I have the characters which I am going to use in the game but also want backgrounds in tiles…for example cartoon style clouds and small trees…in cartoon style…can anyone tell me where I can find these…sound would also be nice…if you have anymore character sites that you think would be nice to use then do put then in…ok thankyou bye bye ;D
I found a bunch of tile graphics on some sites for build-your-own-rpg applications. I think there’s one called RPG Maker and another that’s called something like rpg2k (?). Anyway they should be easy to find with a search engine. I remember they had lots of different tile sets for download, you’re bound to find one you like.
Just a minor note: Rpg maker and its newer sibling are commercial products, and never received an official release anywhere outside of japan (due to the flood of warez versions). Hence, I’d be careful of using these graphics for anything other than personal testing.

Theres a shedload of talented artists, and plenty of help for creating your own. Ask nicely and you’ll probably be able to borrow some test images…
do u need it for a commercial product ??? or is it only a program for testing. means whill that program ever be spread to the world ?
if commercial hire some graphics designer / animator, thats what i do i hire 2 or 3 ppl and the make the pictures animations for me
:oI am a new games programmer and want to design a platform 2d game in java. but I needsome graphics, but for the background as well as for the character which will animate. i am looking cartoon style ones. i have some mario ones and a few like that but :’(I have no background. like .hif file of clouds which can move in the background. Well i have a vision 
of what my game will look like but I can’t find the visual objects can people help me. i went to the site mentioned above but I couldn’t find any. Oh this game will not be for comerical use however I will put it up on the web for people to play >:(it and tell me what they think. Also i might send it to games companies to show then what I can do… :-[.that is if it looks good. I will be trying to make a game as complicated as possible rather than…the standard java games which aren’t very good and not very detailed. :

If anyone can help with the graphics then please do. Also if you have and good ideas that you think would be good(such as a particular type of level) then please do tell me.
