Free 8Bit Sound Effect

Does anyone know where i can find a free “boink/ping/bounce” sound effect for my open source project? I have used googled to death and have yet to find one that doesn’t require you to pay to download it, or require you to advertise their site. It needs to be royalty free as my game is open source and i don’t want to pay any licensing fees for a free game. Any assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

8BitOoze

I’m not sure whether this means that you’re not interested in Creative Commons sounds, but if you’re ok with attributing them (and I imagine you’ll have some libraries to attribute too), then freesound.org is probably what you’re looking for. I had a quick browse for something which fits your description and turned up http://www.freesound.org/samplesViewSingle.php?id=29806 but you’ll want to investigate yourself because you have a better idea of what you want.

Bestest(!) tool ever. Just give it a whirl. You’ll have a dozen usable sound effects within minutes.

Here is also my Java port of SFXR minus the GUI and plus optional reverb, if you want to embed it:

Aaah, awesome. I have been looking for that for a while. Someone showed it to me years ago and I couldn’t remember what it was called.

Well, the name makes actually perfect sense. It’s one of those yarrrrrr names like flickr or modernizr, but since it’s all about sound effects (=sfx) it’s obviously called “sfxr”.
