First post!

:stuck_out_tongue: AHAHAHAHAHA!!!

NOTE: This reminds me of the video tape scene in Clerks when the Randal opens the store.

Very cool

Cheatin’ first poster! It’s not allowed when you create the topic!

Clerks - now there’s a great movie. Nearly as good as Withnail and I.

Cas

Never seen Clerks, but Withnail I liked. Saw Memento the other day - fantastic. 8) ;D After seeing it some years ago, I got a DVD of Nikita imported from France - an excellent film.

I’ve become pretty disillusioned with big name blockbusters. Looking back over the films I’ve seen in the past few years, I realise that most of them I regretted going to.

XXX was preposterous and contained glaring errors and inconsistencies - not trivial ones you understand, I remember one scene where a blue car drove along the left bank of a river, got to a bridge and turned LEFT onto it - and turned RED at the same time! Signs was insultingly racist. Spider Man lacked any kind of plot and the entire story could have been done in ten minutes. Star Wars was all hype. Black Hawk Down was also racist. I thought Goldeneye was bad, but Die Another Day completely broke the Bond films, and I hope they never make another again. Shame really. :frowning:

Curiously enough, Nemesis was a terrible film as well, but I found it strangely enjoyable. Also, the two Lord of the Rings films were excellent, and I can’t wait for the third. I haven’t seen a single animated film that I haven’t totally enjoyed. Maybe if they got Pixar to do the next Bond film it would be an improvement. ;D

Yes, the france la femme nikita is a hundred times better than the american one.

Some more great movies (IMHO) in no particular order:

 • Brazil (my all time favourite ;D)
 • Dr.Strangelove
 • 2001
 • Blade Runner
 • Mulholland Drive (best recent movie I’ve seen in years)
 • 12 Monkeys
 • A clockwork orange

The only recent big blockbuster movie I enjoyed was lord of the rings.

That terrible Nemesis movie is from that strange dude that only makes bad robot movies isn’t it?
I have to admit that I also found Omega Doom (by the same director) strangely entertaining while pretty bad at the same time.

I also must confess I don’t know either clercks or withnail :-[

Ah, chalk me up for Blade Runner as well.

Michael Bishop

Ok, since we are doing movies…

(In no particular order)

 • Starwars series (yes, I know I, II are not the best but, hey, it’s SW)
 • Blade Runner
 • Any Kevin Smith movie
 • Hackers
 • Matrix
 • Mel Brooks films
 • Tron
 • Tomb Raider (yes, Tomb Raider)
 • Cabin Boy
 • Starship Troopers
 • Stargate (Director’s Cut)
 • The Fifth Element (!!!)
 • Brazil
 • Total Recall
 • Shoulin Soccer
 • Ghost in the Machine
 • Akira

Ok, I’ll add more as I go, but I love campy sci-fi and just any movie dripping with ā€œcoolnessā€

ohh my - a Starship Troopers fanboy… quite rare :stuck_out_tongue:
* Hackers

HACK THE PLANET! ;D
* The Fifth Element (!!!)
Another phenomenal film. Luc Besson rocks!

Okay, other films I consider the best of the best:* Dark Star (you gotta love that beach-ball alien!

 • Flash Gordon (honest!)
 • The Three Amigos (really - it’s fantastic!)
 • Titan A.E.
 • Conan the Barbarian
 • Big Trouble in Little China
 • Anything Monty Python
 • Hackers, Sneakers and Wargames
 • The Avengers
 • Total RecallY’know, I’ve never seen Tron… :o

Ah I see I forgot a lot. Alien & Aliens rock (but personally I think resurrection totally sucks, although Brad Dourif is interesting as always). Yes, Starship Troopers (actually most Paul Verhoeven films ;D)
And eXistenZ was totally cool (as are most Cronenberg films). The 5th element’s art direction is great, but otherwise a bit flat IMHO, if entertaining.

More great ones that spring to mind I forgot:

 • Solaris (the russian Tarkovsky version)
 • Strange Days
 • Evil Dead 2 (a true classic ;D)
 • Three Kings was pretty good
 • Metropolis (not that Manga thing, but the very old one)
 • Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

I hope I don’t step on anyone’s toes, but I think The Matrix is extremely overrated. Keanu Reeve’s performance is just downright embarrassing, especially towards the end. And in the end the film totally commits suicide. I think the idea is cool though, very old and biblical, and I do like some parts of it. But overall I thought it was a disappointment.

But then again, I probably just have a very bad taste ;D

First, my name is ā€œThe Plagueā€, you techno-weenie. Where is my skateboard so I can go hang off the back of a limo and snag a floppy of my worm?

and …I…can’t believe…I forgot…

THE THREE AMIGOS!

Perhaps this should be our war cry to the non-Java world:

ā€œWe will not die like dogs, we will fight, like LIONS!ā€ Ahahahah!

-SG

P.S. Not seen Tron? You will die like dogs.

Well any films with Angelina Jolie or Milla Jovovich are great ;D especially Tomb Raider and The fifth element as mention abow

Don’t forget The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension!

Yeah, the movie with the highest nonsense per second ratio. Totally cool. ;D ;D ;D
