Feedback request : Jack Flowers !

Seems like I was too quick to make that statement. Looks like the “Best quality display” also is the option to turn ON smooth gameplay for ati cards  “noddraw” or not. Quite odd that something that should make the game run slower instead makes it smoother. FPS does drop a bit (~half), but is still high enough so I can live with that.

Small rendering and gameplay updates :

  • beginners level
  • enhanced geometry : approximated curved branches, animated enemies
  • high jump leaves (red/orange)
  • camera tracking when moving too high
  • less gc
  • reduced download size (optimized xith/xith-tk), but still around 4Mb

Nothing much on the bug side I’m afraid… ATI users still have to set the sun.java2d.noddraw=true manually

Bigger updates to come next week (level rewrite, new level design (not always circular)

Feedback always welcome !

i have also have that problem with ati card , i have ati 9000, how can i set manually sun.java2d.noddraw=true for applets , for progs i make it in command line but for applets, their run with web browser, so how to do that?
wll this bug be fixed in future?

It’s comming along. Most of the problems I had the first time I tried it are gone, but I still only get 20FPS on my nVidia Geoforce 5500. I didn’t try setting the nodraw to true.

I really like the game play and like where this is going. I have some suggestions though:

  • The graphics need work.

    • The sky is to plane, clouds would be nice
    • Jack should be more detailed
    • The bees wings should be transparent
    • The menu screen could be greatly improved with some nice 2D art
  • The sound

    • Music is pretty catchy, but theres a bug, if I leave the applet, then return I get no sound
    • More sounds like when you jump or land on leaves would be good
    • Maybe sound for bees buzzing when they are close to you
  • No powerups

    • I think this game would be much better with powerups on hard to reach leaves
    • Something to kill 1 bee would be nice (like you get one shot, can kill only one bee…choose wisely which one)
    • Same for spider
    • A powerup that gives you a high jump for a limited time
    • A powerup that makes you invincible for a limited time
  • A deluxe downloadable, fullscreen version for $19.95 at your favorite game portal web site

My list is long, but not that bad. I really think this game has allot of potential. It’s fun and addictive, that’s the key to sales. I really believe that if you do the above, and fix your applet issues, this game could be a big seller on the portals. Heck, I wish I had thought of it!

hehe wait two week more… can’t say much right now, but many things have been improved !

thanks fot this excellent feedback ! (I hope we’ll fix the firefox issues, otherwise I’ll use JWS for the next beta…)

edit : some of the things I’m working on :

  • the path is now a long curve (not limited to a circle)
  • camera tracking enhanced
  • skyboxes
  • 4 worlds (and a world map) : grass, desert, mountains, aquatic with distinct gameplay elements
  • bonus levels (one per wolrd)
  • boss levels (one per world) mimicking old arcade games (space invaders in a bee hive…)
  • collectible objects, hidden objects
  • power ups

I think I’ll be ready for the show in two to three weeks…

Now it worked for me

Nice little game, liked it alot. But after a little while it became repetitious with the same colors and music on every level. Loved the effect how you see the plants grow in the beginning.

Some suggestions to make it even better.

  • variable jumping height based on how long you keep space pressed.
  • Time game. You have to finish on time or die. Or if you finish before a certain time you get time bonus.
  • Make the background a bit darker, mistook the background for the foreground sometimes.
  • Leaves that crumble to pieces after a few seconds after you land on them. (then grow back after a little while.
  • A bit speedier bug.
  • bees that go both horizontal and vertical in a zigzag manner.
  • better jumping pose

Keep up the good work, nice idea!
