Actually…YES! Here is the scoop:
What will happen is a redirect to the new IP address as the domain changeover happens.
The forums will be down for approx one day as the server switchover occurs.
We are almost there folks! Everyone who offered to help moderate will receive an e-mail within a few days to discuss the new forums, how to use them, rules, etc. As well, former moderators can choose to continue helping and will be on the e-mail alias.
Thanks again for everyone’s patience and support!

Thanks Chris for the update! Can we expect a new portal (http://community.java.net/games/) or it will stay unchanged? And what about live wikis, blogs, tutorials, …? Nobody seems to care about them. Does the GTG want or have time/money to handle that or it it up to the Java community to update these rather interesting sections? Actually we have JGF, which provides good docs but what about what’s driven by GTG? And also what about the games sections on java.net?
Ok, one at a time:

The front page has seen an overhaul by AT and we intend to keep this new look. Folks, this is the place to get your projects/products on the top page. The more content we get submitted by the community, the better it will be.

We have these tools in place for the community to use and update. This is not a “corp” site, the idea is to use these areas to elevate what the community is doing. The tools are there folks, so let’s use them! With regard to the blogs, we have moved our blogs over to Sun’s corp blogging site as I find the interface and program to be better and have more external visability. (http://blogs.sun.com/ChrisM)
We wish we could have one or two bodies committed to this community full time but the reality is that we just don’t have that luxury. Which is why we rely on the community to help it’s self. (Thus the call for m oderators, admins, etc.)
Thanks everyone for their continued support and efforts!

ok thanks for the info.
What I don’t understand is why Sun has decided to create the GTG but it’s focussing mainly on one aspect: Game server technologies. I mean I understand that Sun is a server/java company but I think you cannot only focus on server aspects while client APIs need to evolve and mature. Ok I hear you saying that it’s a budget issue… :-/ I don’t denigrate the existing APIs (JOAL, JInput) but man they need strong support. If nobody here at JGO have time or wants to support them then what’s the point to have created them?
Like all open source projects, support comes from need. Jogl is well supported by the community, because lots of people have a need for it. Joal less so. JInput even less.

Well, that’s not ENTIRELY true…There is an entire graphics group at Sun and Doug manages a bit of them. The APIs do need to evolve and be cared for, agreed. And we do maintain them to the best of our ability given our resource constraints. Hopefully, as our charter grows we can meet the additional requirements to grow these things out but for now, we are trying to cover all bases

P.S. Love your game
Will be demoing it at GDC.
