I just came across this from Oracle:
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/eol-135779.html
They say
Java SE 6 will no longer be publicly available after July 2012. Customers interested in continued access to critical bug fixes and security fixes as well as general maintenance for JDK 6 have the option to purchase Oracle Lifetime Support.
Is this just part of a normal pattern as a new Java SE, (7) becomes the standard? Or is it a new way to cook up revenues? I’ve only been working with Java since late 2009, and don’t know if this is something to be alarmed about or not. I worry because I am a refugee from Microsoft, where it seemed like they were always coming up with new ways to nick their developer base.
