End of Daisies

Assemble an army of bomb people to battle against the evil enemy, but make sure none of your troops are underneath the new recruits that fall from the sky. Click on troops with the left and right mouse buttons to move them left and right.

This is my entry for JGO Comp 2008. I’ve taken some liberties with the sprite sheet (there were a few pixels I didn’t want :P). No external libraries are used. It should now work with JRE1.5 (the version I uploaded initially was compiled for JRE1.6). I might at some later date add sound effects, but (aside from bug fixes) the game is otherwise complete.

Comments welcome!

Looks great, I’ll make sure to play it when you’ve got 1.5 ready to go.

Since you’re the only other entrant to the competition, I was wondering what your opinion is on what we should do about it. We could just say that it’s all for fun and then leave it at that (no point in declaring a winner between two people), or perhaps we can just make these games two very early entries and then push it back two weeks or something. I sort of doubt that we’ll get more than like 5 people anyway, though. I think I’ve got to expand the audience, and therefore make it possible to use any programming language. The only problem with that is that it then becomes basically Ludum Dare.

Good use of the sprite sheet and themes and great title. I really didn’t use the sprite sheet much at all for my game…

It should be 1.5 compatible as of… now! (It’s difficult for me to test this, so please tell me if it still isn’t working.)

If enough people are interested then I’d say have a second round of entries – new theme(s), new sprite sheet – and judge all the games together after that. If there isn’t enough interest (and from what you’re saying, there probably isn’t) then we can call it a draw and divide the medals up evenly (I’ll be giving my medals to charity of course ;D)

Taking part was the fun bit!

I like it! ;D

I kept getting confused with left and right click, but that was the only issue I had. Very fun and simple design. I’ll definitely give you the best use of the sprite sheet award.

And I’d like to try this again. One problem I think is that the community didn’t back it for the most part. Big props to kingsachi for helping with the Tome and advertising a bit from there, but I would have liked to see portions of JGO dedicated to it or something. I think for every person who decided they didn’t want to do it there was another who didn’t know of its existence.

But I definitely had a great time making my game and it created an excuse to do so.
