Eclipse Juno

Same here, Juno (and all earlier versions) ran super fast with instant tab switching on an i7 2600k + GTX 580 + 16GB of RAM

I hope you realize how ridiculous it is to mention you uber hardware stats when talking about an IDE - an application which is little more than a fancy text editor and should be SNAPPY.

Ahh it is fun to think of Eclipse as a fancy text editor but we all know that if that were the case it’d be the size of Textpad and run just as fast.

Cas

Yeah…

But my point is, if Photoshop can be snappy why can’t Eclipse ?
on the other hand, its free…

Well princec mentioned his almost as uber ridiculous stats and complained about Eclipse being slow :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve seen you on the telly in a more recent show, you’ve gotten quite old dude.

EDIT:

Apples and oranges indeed.

Upgraded this week, except for a few UI differences and the more shiny Splash Screen logo, haven’t really noticed many differences both on workstation and laptops.

Of course, I’m biased, since I subconsciously equate Juno with Ellen Paige, and thus can’t help but love it ::slight_smile:

Anyone knows if it works as a portable App out of the box? (As in, does it correctly handle relative links to resources) I’m using the outdated 3.6.2 EclipsePortable from PortableApps.com on my portable environment (read: iPod).

Been using it for a day now, seems alright, slightly different look n’ feel but not much else.

What bothers me most is:

  1. Keyboard changes to US English for no apparent reason. I use an Icelandic layout and going to US English layout makes me have to restart Eclipse.
  2. The name of the files in the tabs are too large making it so you only see the first characters. If you’re working with maybe 10 files you’ll only see the first 5-6 characters. This is pretty annoying. I wish they would shrink the font and try to squeeze it better together so you see as many characters as possible.

I use a Spanish keyboard and have no issues. :clue:

I use a German keyboard, and have no problems either.

BTW, what I really intened to post:
I really like, that @see’s and {@link blah}'s work in Juno. This makes looking at commented code much more fun
Also, there is another feature I’ve forgotten to remember…

What do you mean by “work”? In previous versions you could Ctrl+Click (which is configurable) the item being @see’d or @link’d to. Does Juno remove the need to Ctrl+? Mouse hovers worked on them as well.

Oh… didn’t know that.

Okay… I did a software update on my Eclipse 3.7 installation and it got upgraded to Juno for free  Thanks for making that incredibly clear Eclipse dudes

I went for 3.8 instead  And there I shall stay for a while until Juno isn’t crappy. Probably have to wait for a year or so.

Cas

Content assist is uber slow in 4.2 -.- back to 3.8… I was so happy when I saw Eclipse had been updated to 4.2 >_>

Content assist is instantaneous and awesome for me. I have it tailored to my exact needs and I love it.

@princec, what’s exactly crappy about Juno?

Content assist ?!? Am I the only one whose not noticing any difference between Juno and Indigo :expressionless: I dunno, maybe I’m just so distracted by the text and code and stuff, I barely notice all those details

I love how your sometimes oblivious to the general opinion or pretend to ;D
Like you have 2 pages of Juno bashing, and then you ask this question

I found the whole UI strangely sluggish and somebody had at the very least tickled it with the ugly twig, if not battered it about the head a little. And the drag-out window feature had been oddly crippled so that I couldn’t maximise it in my left hand screen (where I keep the console). So I’ll wait until it’s pretty, fast, and works again.
