Droid Assault now on Steam!

If you don’t mind, I’d really like to be featured in the credits or so. Bragging rights for having code on Steam isn’t something to joke about! xD

Sure! Have to add Riven too.

One of our scout droids bumped into a Video Review by Total Biscuit

Released yesterday! Congrats guys, this is going to be amazing for popularity/sales :smiley:

Might I ask how you do the trails for the projectiles? Been goofing around with similar effects but never can get anything very performant as I like lots and lots of particles.

Just lots of particles.

Cas :slight_smile:

[quote]… Really nice effects on the screen. The distortion things like that are pretty neat. …

explodes

Do just add a particle every update on the bullet or lazier shot?

FTFY

So many people misspell that word, it’s unnerving!

Probably several particles… I’ll just go and find one…

	<emitter
		name="bullet.trail.emitter"
		infinite="true"
		particlesPerTick="1.0"
		appearance="spriteimage.particle.glowing.4px.01"
		layer="7"
		particleDuration="4"
		fadeDuration="6"
		startHue="0.95"
		startBrightness="0.15"
		endBrightness="0.015"
		angle="0.0"
		delay="2.0"
		rotate="true"
		relativeRotate="true"
		interpolation="5"
	/>

interpolation=“5” means for every 5 pixels the bullet moves, it emits particlesPerTick particles (1 in this case), and they only last 4 frames.

Cas :slight_smile:

Basically what I was thinking.

Heh what is the hue/brightness stuff?

Well, what does it look like? :slight_smile:

Our particles are interpolated between hues and brightnesses (and saturation) over their duration.

No idea where the proper place for a bug report is, so I’ll do it here. :stuck_out_tongue:

As you can see, I’ve got 2 cursors hanging about, and the big droid thing sticks around too. (Also, seems like my gfx card doesn’t support your shaders, so the game is a little weird, without the shadows. (It’s hard to actually “know” what’s visible to you and what’s not))

The bug first appeared after the update today. :slight_smile:

And of course the obligatory system specs:

Mac Book Pro, primo 2011
Mac OS X 10.8.3
2,3 GHz Intel Core i5
8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB

java version "1.7.0_11"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_11-b21)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 23.6-b04, mixed mode)

That’s caused by a failure to restore a saved game from a previous version. Just restart the game and it’ll be gone.

Cas :slight_smile:

Arh, yeah, did notice that I had lost my save game. :stuck_out_tongue: I thought I had tried to restart the game, turns out I hadn’t, so it works as intended. :slight_smile:

Great to see you guys at Eurogamer last weekend.

We had a blast! Totally knackering though.
