Got 2nd place in the monthly review since it had the misfortune to compete with Everyday shooter…

Great review and good way to get some attention to the game!

Congrats!!!

That’s great. Droid assault is a cool game, I enjoyed playing it.

nice - awesome job cas & chaz

“No one does retro chic like Puppy Games. No one.”
So true!

Which reminds me I still have to get me a copy

I find the criticism from the second reviewer to be a bit lame though, I’ve never understood why difficulty level should have such an enormous impact on the final rating. Also, I didn’t find it that difficult myself

Never seen the gametunnel page before. Place looks interesting. Thanks for the link!

Wow, niiice! =D

DAMN Cas! Tied for second with PennyArcade? Freaking awesome! Congrats!

-Chris

Both Everyday Shooter and the Penny Arcade offerings are weaker titles IMHO ;D

(Actually, ES is hopeless - just not really any fun at all. I quite like the graphics and sounds mind. If it were to rely on a demo alone to sell, it’d sink without trace)

Cas

Oh, I disagree! I think Everyday Shooter is fantastic. I only played it on my PS3 (and still am regularly), but I think the gameplay is great and the presentation in graphics and sound/music is really cool and original.
Droid Assault is absolutely fantastic too though, and is definitely more polished than ES.
I couldn’t say which one I like more overall. Pretty much a tie for me.

I’m with Cas on this one - Everyday Shooter is weak. I had the misfortune to play it at devstation and it’s completely underwhelming - poor shooter mechanics which feel like a bad Geometry Wars clone with none of the tension or fun. And the whole abstract vector style has been done to death now. Move along people…

If it wasn’t for the fact that it’s the only shooter on PS3 it would have vanished into obscurity long ago.

Well, I agree that they are weaker than DS, but I do actually like the PA game. The source material alone helps the title. But your stuff just rocks on its own!

Apart from the fact that it’s not the only shooter on PS3 (there’s also Super Stardust HD), if what you say is true then how do you explain its high ratings?
Even though Super Stardust HD was generally regarded as better than Geometry Wars, I actually prefer EE over SSHD.
Can’t argue about taste eh?

“One of the only” shooters then - Stardust is a much better shooter (although I’m not sure whether I’d rate it higher or not than GW). I’m not sure what high ratings you’re referring to - Everyday Shooter is firmly in “My First Shooting Game” category. It’s lowest common denominator feel-good stuff, much like Jets n Guns.

Sorry EricD, SSDHD is the BEST shooter on PS3. Playing it more than any other game on my PS3, including MGS4!

-Chris

BTW, we should all exchange PS3 names, correct?

Super Stardust HD is good, but waaaay too generic for me.

I’d say an average of 83/100 from 25 reviews counts as high ratings.

That’s awesome, guys! Congratulations!

Yes, but an 85 for SSDHD! PM me your PS3 friend name

-Chris

Ah, so SSDHD is 2% better than ES, wow :stuck_out_tongue:
I’ve sent you a PM

What really got me about ES (which I bought), is that there’s no demo, and you cannot get a refund on Steam. That’s just wrong. If I’d played a demo of it, I’d never have bought it. I just got really annoyed with all the gushing hype that surrounds it when at the end of the day it’s a very weak implementation of a solid design wrapped up in “shader wankery”. And some nice guitar noises. Shame that’s all the noises there are though.
