DROID ASSAULT alpha

Works well over here (Mac OS X 10.5 Intel). I love the particle effects.

Mouse-capture in windowed mode bugs me a bit, though.

cool game, I think that it is addictive, a multiplayer (two player) would be fabulous

music and graphics are really nice too

works excellent on : AMD 1.7GH - 1GB RAM - ATI X800 - WinXP full updated

ps:the only thing I “dislike” is the droid graphics itself, dont really know why! this is just subjective.

Dude, you have got to relax.

It was an attempt at self-deprecation (note: self) aimed at making princec more disposed to expending effort on a market that has garnered him approximately zero sales.

Nobody worth listening to honestly believes in the linux user stereotype. If someone appears to, assume that they are doing it for, as they say on the interweb, “teh lulz”.

Apologies for the digression everyone.

of course, everybody know that linux is a full of bug OS :-X

oki, sry, I get out

Game works and runs great. A bit hard to see the level after you kill all the enemies and it goes all dark.

Maybe you could give a spot light to the bot so when the level goes dark he can look around and find his way (light points at mouse aim cursor). Could also make a nice addition for a dark level were you need to spot enemy bots in the dark ?

did notice that pausing the game releases mouse. (P key). Also needs a pause message when paused.

Keep 'em coming… am making a big list of Things…

As usual, a great job. Works great on my machine.

Windows XP
AMD 3000+
ASUS Radeon 9600Pro256
512MB Ram

the atmosphere music is WILD! and the stage change audio is sooo funky

I absolutely, with a passion, hate the change you made so that droids lose “energy” over time.
It forces a player into switching robots all the time and removing the whole purpose of upgrading the droids.

I had a feeling you wouldn’t like that because I seem to recall you found a really powerful bot a while back that nothing could touch and just pwned the game for so long afterwards you had to suicide just to stop playing!!

The degeneration thing is, it turns out, essential to gameplay balance. It is after all possible to upgrade a bot to be so armoured that no weaponry is capable of hurting it - so I needed a way to make sure that robots eventually wear our, or that you are forced to try new droids out.

Ok, as has already been stated several times it seems, this game is rather awesome (though I’m sure you don’t mind one more). I really like the idea of selectively picking droids and being able to collect power ups to improve your army. It’s sort of like a half RTS half action game almost. Adds a new twist to the paradroids thing, and is very nice and fast paced.

Only two minor complaints at this point. One, I would like to be able to have a larger window, if nothing else because it’s a small fraction of my screen and the mouse move speed is very fast for that region and
Two, if you’re going to add droid health degeneration per level (which I can completely understand and actually commend you for making the choice to stop focusing on a single, overpowered bot), you really, really should indicate either in the instructions or on level transition that your health has decayed. I actually didn’t realize this feature was in the game until I read Matzon’s post just now, and was like “ooooh, that’s why I keep getting hit by at least one invisible shot each level”. This also changes the way I’ll try to play the game, as I realize I can’t just try to build up a single robot anymore. And also it’s much nicer if you know about that feature ahead of time, rather than finding it out a ways in when trying to play the game one way, and discovering you can’t. Could upset players slightly.

That’s all I guess. Going to give it another play.

Works great, graphics are smooth, lots of fun. The way the view is centred half-way between the aimer and the droid is nice.

It would be good if the starting level was a bit easier in terms of what you need to do - I was walking around aimlessly for ages, didn’t know you had to blow the computer up.

Maybe you could have arrows on the floor and make the room smaller?

The atmosphere is very good, graphics and sound. Really well polished.

You don’t have to blow the computer up  Just kill or capture all the droids.

I think we will probably make the very first level a single room.

Oh, and you can now capture turrets

Holy moses. Hoooly moooses.

I’m imagining this on the DS with some wifi coop or simple deathmatch and with slightly more advanced scoring (think Space Invaders Extreme) for increased level grinding on the bus, and it’s an absolute killer on the must-buy level. Perhaps you could look into this?
Unfortunately, it plays slightly awkwardly on the pc, it feels like it’s trying to fit somewhere in between flash-game-casual and sound-effect-filled-special-effect-bonanza, and that kinda hurts it.

Amazing sound, great graphics (I’m having a hard time telling which droids are better, but then they start shooting back and I kinda figure it out. ;)). The level design was ok, with some of the levels bordering on memorable, but most being slightly confusing. A mini-map and perhaps themed level design wouldn’t hurt. Also, I’m a sucker for boss battles. ;D Nice!
Most importantly, you managed to achieve “it”, whatever “it” is. The thing that makes a game feel like a game instead of a tech demo?

btw, if you need music, I could probably whip together something suitable. Let me know. =)

Fantastic!

I’ll play the game again later and give you my comments!

How about giving a small point score for hitting lights, computers, etc. Just like 1 or 10 each.

or hidden powerups in some of them

Yeah, that would just add to the game play. I even think about having bonus stages where you need to shoot as many lights as possible to gain the highest score. And there would be different types of lights, which would give points based on the type. So you would have to judiciously choose the lights to shoot at. And while we’re there, why not having a limited time in some bonus stages?

There are so many things we could add, but so little time

We’d like to have a “challenge” stage every 7 levels but I can’t think of anything we can do that might fit in with the general story and situation just at the moment. Open to suggestions. The prizes would probably be a selection of powerups for your bots.

Cas

How about something like the bonus stages in Gauntlet? A level with no enemies but double movement speed where you’ve got to collect as many bonus items as possible within a fixed time limit.
