I like to follow multiple companies or you guys to quickly learn interesting news but I hate reading “on my way home, that was a long day” or “just ate a great cheese”, I DON’T CARE.
Tweeting may drive some traffic to your site depending on your tweets and mostly your pitch but honestly I didn’t have that much success. In summary, I like twitter to quickly learn news about games and technology in my case.
Twitter is like real communication: some people have a low signal to noise ratio, others do better, for the remaining folks it fluctuate wildly. Some people crave on the attention, so tend to share everything, or start to do things, so they can twitter about it. Again, just like IRL, where you do things so you have something to talk about at the bar/pub/party/reunion.
Just checked. All of my tweets are awesome. ;D
(I only registered because I needed a way to quickly ping some people.)
My tweets are usually personal things, but I tweet on average maybe once a week. I mostly read other peoples’ stuff. I like to read a mix of personal stuff and interesting stuff. It’s all about volume, I think. There is one guy I am following who tweets almost all personal stuff and tweets like 20 times a day, I’m going to stop following him just because of the annoyance. And you (Analog Kid) actually tweet almost “too much” also, even though for the most part you post interesting articles. I think it’s the game reviews that you put up that I don’t really see the point to. Not that I think you should stop - like Riven says, everybody does their own thing.
Q: Do you find twitter useful?
A: No.
Though I don’t find it useful, I still check 2-3 times a day . I am still trying to find its usefulness .
I also tweet at most one time per week, personal stuff .
So if you wanna read my personal stuff, mostly in Portuguese, @tteletubo .
Lol, that is probably me. I actually find Twitter quite enjoyable because of the personal aspect. Mostly this is because I have a pretty solid group of friends who have chosen it as their social network (over Facebook) and that’s how we keep track of things.
Twitter is stupid.
Twitter is a means of communication. It is as useful as you make it.
Nah, it is stupid without my help.
Good catch, it should have been… It is as useful as Nate makes it.
Yeah I think I tweet/retweet a bit too much. As for game reviews on my site, yes I think I’m going to stop that as this is mostly a waste of time. I tried it in the intent to attract more visitors but that doesn’t really work.
Why?
I explained (in our mother tongue) it in my personal blog in the latest article. Identi.ca is based on open source softwares and is an Open Service.
I actually was referring to IGN reviews, not your own. I like to read yours, it’s just if I want to read IGN reviews I’ll go to IGN.
Nope, this person is not on JGO. They had a blog on Animal Crossing I used to read back in the day (it was very funny) and then when multiplayer AC came out we used to visit each others’ towns. We had emailed each other to coordinate friend codes or whatever, so Twitter pulled his account from my address book. He tweets incessantly about stuff I can in no way relate to, like the “funny” thing his kid is doing (also he uses the kid’s name rather than “my kid” so it took me a few months to know who the hell he was talking about) and the like.
So no, not you.
Why do you care about open source and social networking? What’s the point? I didn’t read your personal blog, sorry.
Julien only uses open source stuff. I remember him saying he told his employer he would quit if they made him use Windows (because Windows is not open source).
When you have no control on how and what you share, you can have some really bad surprises… Facebook suddenly disabled my personal profile without explanation whereas I was in a stupid reality TV show and then some guys like usurping my identity frequently on this social network. In France, some kind of insults can lead you to the jailhouse. This means that preventing usurpation of identity and controlling what is done with your personal data is absolutely crucial. Facebook is allowed to sell even your private data to governments and private corporations.
Twitter is a bit different because everything is public except direct messages but Twitter refused helping me to get my profile verified and some problems that I had with Facebook could have happened with Twitter.
That is why I prefer transparent social networks and micro-blogging softwares (without opaque rules and completely arbitrary way of working) based on open source softwares. I know that using open source softwares is not magic, it does not solve all the problems that I evoked but it is better than Facebeurk ;D
It is true. The far left wing political activist is always somewhere behind
I’m giving up MSN (I now use Jabber).
OK that explains about facebook and twitter.
