It’s been years since I’ve been back here, and to think…I’m about to post something in the miscellaneous section. -1 for contribution to the community.
I’m working on a discussion board experiment, a piece of software that structures discussion threads differently than your typical bulletin board app. I came to this experiment because I’ve recently become a moderator for an online group (not this one, obviously) and have become quite interested in how the structure of conversations (both written and in person) affect the way we understand and follow them. As part of that experiment I’m collecting examples of the various types of flow in a conversation.
What I need from the community are examples of threads in this forum that (in your own opinion) qualify as examples of any/all of the following:
- Threads that contain especially GREAT writing or insight, and represent the best of what the community produces
- Threads that started on one topic and moved to a completely different topic at some point
- Threads that have lots of references to outside resources (links to other sites, etc.)
- Threads that contain a lot of blockquotes where one reply quotes one or more previous replies
- Threads that contain a lot of, “Me too - I have this question/problem/issue” sorts of posts that don’t result in any new value being added to the thread
- Threads that contain a large number of “bump” posts to keep them in the “recent” list
[li]Threads that “fracture” - starting with one topic, but quickly fracture into tons of completely related, but possible directions. Debugging discussions where the correct solution is one ofnpossible solutions are good examples of this.
All I’m looking for in replies is a label and a link. For example:
