direct access pixels

In an applet, whats the quickest way to get direct access to the pixels, without using any library.

In C and vga, you just switch to vga mode and access the screen memory in the ram.

In c and direct x, you create a surface and lock it to access the memory.

How do I do this in java, is there a quick solution that works without having to use any library at all except the most basic?

See some of the code snippets here: TinyGame Resources.

(Create a BufferedImage for the size of your screen, get the reference to the raw data and off you go)

Wow that was easy, its real quick too!
I had less trouble with java than I did with direct x, isnt that funny…
