[Derailed Thread :)] libGDX - It's so large?

One word: Europe.

Huh after a little bit of googlfuing seems like US has extremely high tax rate for corporations compared to even the countries that tax the most but for personal it is considerably less then the same high tax countries. Guess it is a a perspective thing. Companies should pay more then people or people should pay more then companies.

And I live in Germany :expressionless:
Furthermore I hate taxes anyway D:
If I ever go into prison it will be because tax dodging :3

But hey, I’m going to move to Japan eventually, looks better there

Man I am derailing this thread sorry.

Did some more googling and it seems that many economic articles suggest low tax rates for corporations as that normally results in a stronger economy. Looks like America is becoming a nation of consumers and not producers…well we have kinda been that way for a while now.

I also see that some of the best games come from Europe. Why is that? Crysis I believe is German. Even if the game play sucks graphics are great.

How’d that make Crysis one of the “best games” then?

Anyway: current perceived wisdom on taxation is that zero corporation tax is what is needed to make taxation simpler and fairer, and all tax is instead invididual tax.

That Steam net us about $21,000, which is about £13,000 when converted into GBP. We save 20% of that against tax (the exact figure is always a mystery but that seems to be a pretty reasonable approximation), so that leaves us with £10,400; however that doesn’t account for any other operating expenses like accountancy, server rental, advertising, etc. which actually are accounted for out of the £13,000 figure.

… the rest of the time we make diddly squat, so we rely on several sales a year to keep us going and at least one product release a year. We’ve got 2 this year! Ultratron’s coming on 18th March.

Cas

Really ? I think Europe doesn’t produce very much at all. Its mostly USA and Japan… and Canada.(I include cases where US companies outsource, because its still coming the the US, at large)
Crysis is definitely the game with the highest budget in Germany, but thats also easily so because Germany has virtually no other big budget games.
Italy ? mmmh not so much
Spain: nope
Greece: Nah
Germany: Crysis, thats it.
France: Yeah well some, I think Ubisoft is more Canada.
UK & Scandinavia: Fair amount of games.
Then we have some Russian, Czech, Ukraine and near est games… not many though.

Without knowing the numbers, if you had a diagram of the amount of games and money grossed because of them, Europe would be easily third, I’m sure. And thats even considering the fact that Japan has problems selling games to the west, but their own game consumers are quite dedicated…

Taxes take a chunk out of your monthly gain, but without them, your government couldn’t afford to invest in health care, roads, pensions, and a whole lot of other services and infrastructure that you use. Without taxes, you would have to pay a lot of money for various insurances, even more than you already do. I consider taxes the least evil alternative there is.

The USA has high corporate rates, but so many loopholes that the largest companies pay zero tax. So it’s basically the little guys who can’t afford to incorporate offshore shell companies who get shafted.

I used to believe that, but more and more I think my wage is cut in half (France, I confirm) not for the good of the community, but to re-fill the banks so they can invest like crazy and make even bigger profits while we pay their debts.

Yeah, Battlefield 3 was “fair”. ::slight_smile: Too bad Dice is working with EA though…

The Witcher was and is a fantastic game. Absolutely amazing. Europe I believe. Although many hate it, the first Fable was brilliant. Sadly, they did not do so well with the rest. Many very good stylized games come from across the seas from where I am from. US has primarily action shooter type of games which kinda suck or have been done a billion times. I guess we have Halo. Only fps I ever REALLY got into. I am also talking last 5-8 years. I guess Blizzard would be US but they have been super pissing me off. Then there is BioWare which is shit.

Hey dog I heard you like DLCs, so I got you a DLC for your DLC that needs a DLC to purchase the DLC for 16000 MS points. I hate that shit. Give me the whole damn game.

Seems like many great games are moving into mmos. Loved the first and second NWN and now we get some crappy action mmo. Loved TES and now we get some MMO. Not sure if it will be crappy. Can’t wait for a DA mmo and a ME mmo. And what is the big deal with facebook integration crap? Who gives two shits about your damn achievements. I don’t want to know when you get the “Hurtz So Gud” badge. I guess I am more mid school liking classic rpg styles more.

We need taxes but one wonders where we draw the line at. 50% income taken away for what? I thought most countries in Europe did not spend that much on military? I think UK still spends a chuck but damn. What do they do with it? What does the US do with it? It like they are competing for who can spend the most money they don’t have.

Guess US wins. ;D

Value added tax is my huge pet-peve. Most unfair thing on the planet. Second is estate taxes (well all multiple taxations). I love looking at (say) my electric bill and seeing tax #1, which is added to the base amount and that total is used to compute tax #2…awesome! WRT: Tax caps? You nuts? At one point in recent history in one of the Scandinavian countries it was possible to go over 100% taxation. France has the fantastic “wealth tax”, which if you’re net worth is over X amount you get taxed some amount based on your paper net-worth (including you know stuff like toilet paper you have, charcoal in the garage.) What the problem you say? As an example is some area that suddenly becomes popular for secondary homes…housing values skyrocket and the poor people (say fisherman) originally from the area how have a large paper net worth. Too bad. Oh and of course this tax is yearly.

I’m trying to make a living in Greece. Your argument is invalid.

Er, this headline from today comes to mind  - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-21608747

Just keep in mind that all that wasted money is flowing back into the economy, so it’s not a 100% loss. I’m all for government overspending, as long as they spend it on me. :persecutioncomplex:

Can we derail this thread any further?

I wonder what would happen if all those billions of taxpayer’s euro’s and pounds would be spent on reducing Java and LibGDX size. I mean, then we might even get it to a download size of 4MB!!!

But them’s military billions, which means we’d end up doubling the download size, and it would only be operational on 4 days of the year! ;D

Rather use the money to reduce the size better use it to increase internet bandwidth.

Why can’t libgdx pay my taxes?
