Dennis Ritchie is dead.

:frowning:

Truthfully, I clicked on this topic because I did not know who Dennis Ritchie is. Now that I know, I’m ashamed to have not known :frowning:

RIP :’(

It’s strange. When I started that noteworthy people thread my first thought was of Kernighan, Ritchie and Thompson, but I sorta wanted to stick to individual contributions…even though very few are truly individual efforts. I’m certainly going to toast Ritchie this evening.

Ah, now that really is a great loss to computer science.

+1

this

That’s a bummer.

wow, apparently I was not paying attention when I did my Computer programming reading… Cuase I even took notes that C was made by Dennis ritchie, and yet I had no idea who he was when I saw this.

He died a few days ago. Great guy. I assume even Java would not exist without him. In Belgium, some media spoke about his death but not really in France.

You did ?

LOL!

I guess we are talking to “Zombie Julien” now

he has some credits left

hmm, I must have missed that, but that makes sense sinse I don’t watch local belgian tv ever :stuck_out_tongue:

Oops sorry. I’m alive, it was a spelling mistake or maybe a Freudian slip.

this was mentioned a couple of days ago on some podcast someone who was giving a ride to me was listening to.

Basically the guys said that dennis made computers for real people who did real work. And Jobs made computers for hippies.

LOL!! That’s funny, but true.

Apple II & NeXT.

Oh yeah, and DTP & Art for many many years was pretty much mac. Stuff like that makes great sound bites, but aren’t very realistic.

I just now found out that John McCarthy died, just a few days after Ritchie…go figure.
